Please Explain Garnet Bucks vs. Flex Bucks

I would appreciate an explanation of Garnet Bucks compared with Flex Bucks. My son is unlikely to get value from any of the meal plans but I want to make sure he can get a decent meal on campus.

Flex bucks and Garnet Bucks WORK EXACTLY THE SAME, except Flex Bucks are what are included in a meal plan and Garnet Bucks are you you buy yourselves.

You can use them in the cafeterias (Suwanee and Fresh Foods), at the fast food locations on campus at the Union, at Chili’s on campus, at the Starbucks locations…

One difference: Flex bucks for summer role over to Fall if you maintain a meal plan, and Fall roll over to Spring if you maintain a plan. Then they expire. Garnet Bucks do not expire until you graduate. Sometimes they run specials, esp over the summer, where you get 10% or 20% extra Garnet Bucks if you purchase a minimum of $100. Sign up for emails. Or make an account on seminoledining.com, just don’t make a purchase. Then you get emails about specials over the summer.

Sunny, thank you very much. I hope they will cover a lot of this information next week at orientation. We seem to be stumbling along out here. Maybe trying to understand too much, too soon.

Yes, there is a presentation on meal plans AND there will be tables in several different places manned by seminole dining services. Ask away, as they are there to ask questions. They have pamplets, and will tell you all about your options. They will want to sell you a meal plan, but will also be glad to take your money for Garnet Bucks. Remember, there are some dorms that require a meal plan of some sort, and Garnet Bucks do not count for that. Those tables are up again during move in. And you can go online anytime and purchase the meal plan or Garnet Bucks, once you have gone to orientation and your student has received an FSU card.
