I went to UCD last weekend. It was very quiet!! It is really a small town. A lot of farms inside a university. Even I expected to see a lot of cows, it made me hesitate and questioned myself how can I live there.

I still never have a chance to visit UCSD so any of you guys who have visited both schools, please give me some ideas - compare and contrast both two campuses.

My daughter goes to UCSD. We visited both campuses before she decided.

UCSD feels like a commuter school on the weekends. It is deserted. There are a lot of Socal students and they seem to go home on weekends a lot. That may get old as they are freshmen living in dorms right now. As my daughter said, “you have to get on the freeway and drive somewhere to find a party”.

From the one weekend I was in Davis during the fall, it looks like people hang around on weekends because there are football games to go to. Division I sports and “Aggie pride” are things that UCSD lacks. There is much more school spirit at UCD.

The dorm food at UCSD is terrible. UCD wins hands down here, although the all-you-can-eat format may give you that dreaded freshman 15.

Davis has that cutesy small town feel which may only appeal to some people. SD has big city amenities, if you can find time to indulge in them. But you will need a car to get around. The public transportation is not as convenient as the school would like you to believe.

So what made her pick UCSD after all this is: It was highly ranked in her major (biology), proximity to the beach, and her allergies. If you have hay fever or bad allergies, Davis can make you miserable in the spring.

I would have to say of her friends who went to UCD, just about every one of them is happy there. UCSD is more of a mixed bag.
