Please give chances, and things to improve!

Hello, i am a afican-american female from detroit. I am currently a junior and when i apply to uofm I will have a 3.85 GPA and a 33 on the ACT. I attend one of the most rigorous high schools in the state, MERCY HIGH SCHOOL, (all girls catholic) and when i have graduated will have take 8 honors/ap classes. I also have done month-long residential progrmas at uofm for the past four summers. HOWEVER, these programs are in engineering and I would like to pursue pharmacy. I am very active in school organizations, and a few academic/humanitarian orgs outisde of skool. I am also heavily involved in the theatre department and foresics team. Next summer I will participate in a 10-week long summer research program at UC-San Francisco, the best pharmacy school in the country. I would like to know what my chances are at Michigan and what I could do this school year and the beginning of my senior year to improve my chances, my fam does not have a HUGE evident financial need but I really need to get a full ride scholarship because they have like nooo money saved for me for college. I am an instate student who wants to major in pre-pharm and I would liek to be admitted into their preferred admissions program for pharmacy, even though I dont want to go their for pharm school, that backing would be nice. Please tell me what u think my chances r????

Getting in won't be a problem. I think you'd have to be a perfect 4.0/36/5 on every AP test though to get a full ride, especially if you don't demonstrate financial need.

I think you'll probably get some big scholarship, possible a full ride.

They have awesome scholarships for minorities. My friend had a 26 ACT and got full tuition from umich.

unless your Asian, then you get nothing.

Whatever you do, just apply early. When you apply early there are more spots available as well as more money still looking for a home. I'm not talking some sort of early action program, I just mean, don't wait until Jan. 30 to send your application in, get it to UM in Nov. or even early if you can!

Azurek, exactly.

We aren't 'minorities' so we get jack ****.

All those other minorites get full rides and all that BS, that in * to me. *** ass.,

Someone's bitter.

Every URM Chances thread seems to turn into an AA flamefest lately on CC.

us asian people aren't even a minority anymore. we're all over the freakin place.

Yeah we are a over-represented minority.

Actually I really think giving minority admissions is a good idea, so long as they are POOR. I don't like it when my neighbor who is rich as hell can get in so easily even though he isn't disadvantaged at all.

The program is supposed to bring po' folk into the middle class, wihch means that we should give SCHOLARSHIPS and ADMISSIONS to those people.

Not to say I'm not bitter though. All those GOD DAMN indians applying to schools hurt my chances big time. F'ING CONFORMISTS! GOD!

Jenny790, I think you have a good chance at most schools in the country. Is there a counselor at your high school you can talk to?

Good luck to you.

Don't sweat it Jenny. And don't listen to the bitterness. A 3.9 student with a 33 ACT score has a shot of getting a scholarship at most universities, regardless of race. However, odds of getting a full ride are never good. Still, between the scholarships, loans, grants, and money that your parents can provide (even if they haven't saved anything doesn't mean they cannot help out a little), you should be able to afford Michigan quite easily.

I have a little side-question,
would we have to apply for scholarships separately or we just send the application and hope to get lucky?

Every person that submits an application to the LSA department is automatically entered into a scholarship program depending on merit. Then the department has other scholarships that you can apply for.

Thank you soo much everyone that has actually posted and naswered my question and not just went on some bitter tirade. And for those who did go on an AA tirade, i'm sorry that I upset you.

Oh yeah, and to dstark yeah we have a counselor but since i've been in high school she's left twice to go on maternity leave. She's currently out but she has been there like a total of like 4 months over the last two years, so i'm kinda worried about her rec

ok i feel really annoying posting all these in a row, but here goes, so in fact my cum wil be like 3.837 not 3.85 like i thought, does that make a diff? PS. Its unweighted

TIRADE! MUAGAGHAGAA!

No just kidding. I really don't care either way. It's a good idea. Fundamentally.

Have fun. The other guy is right, 3.8 w/ 33ACT is good chances anywhere.
