I want to go to a school in either New York or California

rank- 35/189
school type- competitive, private high school

I haven't officially taken the SATs yet, but on the online practice test I got:
critical reading- 570
writing- 620
math- 510
I'm pretty confident that I can get higher than that though, I've got over a year and I haven't ever done anything SAT related before so I took it just to see where I sit. Obviously, I suck at math.

x2 credit in australasian schools english competition
distinction in australasian schools writing competition (top 1%)

what do you want to major in? any specific things that you would want in a college?

Oopsies left that out!
I want a school that has majors offered in journalism, film studies and/or languages

Sorry but I'm not very knowledgable in your majors

But if you go to this website and enter in your data (i think the page is down right now but it should be up again soon), they will give you match, safety, and reach schools that you should be looking at!

Hope that helps!

wow weird how did my post get above yours :S

Why do you want to go to college in the US?

You will probably have to bring your SATs up by over 100 points per section in order to get in and get FA as an international. You probably need to take a few SATIIs also. At least as a New Zealander you won't need to worry about TOEFL.

I may be wrong, but I have the impression that only the most selective schools tend to be need-blind for internationals, and given the current financial crunch some of them have stated that they may have to back away from that position.

Your best chance is probably being recruited as an athlete somewhere. Have you explored that?

For the experience. If I don't go to college in the US I am going to apply to a study abroad program at a university in NZ. I am really, really interested in studying in America.

I know my SATs aren't good, but I know that I can bring them up. They were just my results from a practice test I took online. And yes, I would take SATIIs but I am not applying until next November so I have time on my side.

I don't think I would have much chance being recruited as an athlete. I don't do any sports on a national level or anything like that.

Thanks for your reply.
