Please give me your opinion of my chances

Hi everyone, I’m a Hispanic high school senior from a poor social and economic background. I have a 4.7 in weighted and 3.9 nonweighted Gpa. I took 1 ap my sophmore year, 4 my Junior year, and 5 this year. My Sat score is 1850. Act:30. My ECs kind of suck I have maybe 30 hours of service and I’m only an officer of a club and a captain for a breakdance club. I plan on majoring in computer science and engineering at Uc Berkely, Ucsd, Carnagie Mellon, Ucla, or Stanford (Dream colleges). Do you think I have a good chance at these schools or is Computer Science too impacted. (My fallbacks are Cal poly SLO, Uc Irvine, UCSB, and UC Davis) And do you think my chances for my backups are good?

Your SAT and ACT are a low for the top schools on your list although GPA is very competitive. UCD/UCI/UCSB and SLO are not backups but slight reaches. For backups look at UCR/UCSC/UCM/CPP/SDSU/CsULB and SJSU. Your disadvantaged background could boost your chances, but you need some solid match and safety schools. Bump up your test scores and the mid-tier UC’s could be match schools.

Good luck
BTW: your ethnicity will not be considered by Calif publics.

Thank you!

As mentioned above by @Gumbymom your scores are rather low. Raise up your ACT to 32+ for mid-tier UCs, and to 34+ for top UCs, then you will have good chances for all UCs. Stanford should still remain a dream school!

Great GPA, and your ACT is good, too. For reference, UCLA’s Profile of Admitted Freshmen for Fall 2014 shows that the 25%/75% ACT range for all applicants was 24-31. More importantly, the range was 28-34 for admitted students and 26-32 for enrolled students. So you are right in there with a solid chance, but computer science and engineering will have very strong competition. Good luck!
