I was pondering my chances at the following colleges: NYU, Brown, Georgetown, Northwestern, UVA, and Vanderbilt

-Southern female
-4.0 unweighted at top private school in the south (with average SAT score nearing a 1400)
-AP courses taken:
AP European History
AP American History
AP English Lang. and Composition
AP Physics
AP US Gov
AP Biology
AP Poetry
AP Fiction
AP Calculus
4s and 5s on every exam taken
- SATs: 700M, 760V, 800W
- ECs: Writing Tutor, History Tutor, New Student Mentor, Choir Officer, 2 school choirs, Key Club, Recycling Club, Spanish Club, Yearbook Editor-in-Chief, Newspaper Editor-in-Chief
- Volunteer Work: Children's Tutor at YWCA, Firehouse shelter, sunday school helper/teacher, Habitat for Humanity
- legacy at Vandy, considerable connections to UVA

Id say u r a shoe in to all those school ( i also agree with nizzle, the ivies are totally unpredictable). Vandy and NYU have good humanities programs

You're SAT score is about Brown's average. Most at or below the average are hooked candidates. Actually, the "lower" (hate the term) ivies are not that unpredictable.

I disagree with zagat, i think you are a strong candidate at all schools listed. A 1460 is not low for Brown, combine that with 4.0 UW and i say you will be very attractive to the admissions committee. However, zagat is correct in the fact that Brown(and the other ivies) are all about distintion and "hooks". Your chances will increase greatly if you can demonstrate a unique passion or quark of some sort. Uva is the Best! good luck.(also if you are from the south you could be from an underrepresented state, although i am not sure that it really makes that much of a difference)
