Can Success be disastrous?
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Success is all around us. It is one of the major topics of the news. We read about it in books, and it makes up a majority of our everyday lives. Correspondingly, most people have an indubitable hunger for success; however, these people are led by an irrational belief that success can be the solution to their problems. Success is, in fact, disastrous. This is evident in the lives of celebrities, in literature, and even in everyday life.
Success is the most prolific bane in the lives of celebrities. Perhaps the most well known example of disastrous success is Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay Lohan started her fruitful career when she was 12, and was extolled by many critiques. She was the stars of many hit movies like The Parent Trap and Herbie Fully Loaded. Lohan was nominated for an innumerable number of awards and won a countless more, like Young Actress Award. However, during Lohan's late teenage years, her success started to dismantle. Lohan was infamous for getting sent to rehabilitation many times and her personal life flooded the news. Lohan was initially considered one of the most successful young actresses, but her fame and success turned to disaster. Even now, Lohan is the center of celebrity trash jokes, and her success-turned-disaster led to the end of not only her career, but her reputation as well.
Success is also traced through literature. In In the Time of Butterflies, Julia Alvarez tells the story of the four eccentric Mirabel sisters who were essentially diverse but fought for the same cause; they wanted to overthrow their dictator, Rafael Trujillo. They were so headstrong in their cause that they were called the butterflies. However, their dogmatic efforts were finally paid off. Everyone who wanted to overthrow Trujillo was part of a secret network, where the Mirabel sisters quickly became the top. Eventually, the Mirabel sister's plans were disclosed to Rafael Trujillo, and he murdered them with the aid of his men. The Mirabel sister's success was essentially fruitful and rewarding, but it eventually led to disaster because of their fame and success and its inevitable path to disaster.
Success and disaster and certitudes of everyday life. My aunt started her career in a small company near her college. She was simply an employee and she did petty jobs wherever she could. However, she was a very hard worker and could solve any problem with a little thinking. Eventually she became the CEO of her company and had the upper hand in all of her company. My aunt became the owner of millions of dollars and spend her money wherever she could. She bought anything that she wanted. My mom and dad told her to save some of her money, but she did not listen. After a while, my aunt became bankrupt and could not control her money anymore. She became flooded with debts and could not live with a lot of spending. Her success reached a point of disaster where she had to give up her life of luxury.
Success and disaster are almost intertwined. After success comes disaster, whether it is in fame, literature, or personal life. Success is perhaps one of the traits that people yearn for the most, but in reality, if one has everything in life, there is nothing worth living for.
