Does the success of a communitywhether it is a class, a team, a family, a nation, or any other groupdepend upon peoples willingness to limit their personal interests?

Humans have developed as social creatures. The long for people and often people with similar interests. However, over time, as the world around us has developed. We have become more selfish and willing to sacrifice the group for personal gains. And when we deviate from our group for personal interest, then the team suffers and becomes less successful.

In 2003, a player of the indian cricket team, Prajed Kumar, left his relatively new career in cricket to pursue the film industry. Although he was a new player on the team, his performance had helped the team a lot in the last two years. He was one of the best ballers the has ever had. However, his decision to leave the team came as a shock because the whole team and the millions of fans across the country were riding their hopes on him to bring home the world cup next year. Due to lack of good players and last minute change in strategy palming, the INdian cricket team didn't not win the world cup. This shows that when people fail to limit personal interests, the entire group suffers.

A recent Korean film has been acclaimed by several ardent fanatics followers of the korean cinema. The crew of the film included two famous korean personalities and a Chinese actor. The Chinese actor could have easily asked for a change in role, and could have played the protagonist because he was a close friend of the director and being an international movie star, there was little the producer would not do to please him. This would mean a much wider exposure, and a lot of success in the korean industry. However, he felt that the current actor playing the protagonist was perfect for the part and so didn't try and get his role. Ultimately the movie became one of the best korean movies of all time. When asked in a survey, whether or not the movie would be better with the change in actors, an astonishing eighty three percent voters replied no. This delineates that when individuals limit personal interests and look for the benefit of the group, the team is much more successful.

A scamming group in the country of Fiji was highly successful after it managed to hack into several bank accounts via online transactions. And after doing this for one year, and not being caught. The lead hacker of the five man team wanted a larger share of the profit. And to do so silently, he transferred quite a bit of the stolen money to a secret offshore bank. This transfer however was not sealed well enough and the police were able to find him. Although this helped the general public. The lead hacker's personal interest lead to the downfall of his entire team.

Hence, if people don't limit their self interest, then their entire team is likely to suffer due to their actions. Hence it is necessary to think about everyone else before acting for individual gain.
