Assignment: Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority?

There is always a need to question people in positions of authority. We have witnessed the fall of great empires throughout the course of Human History. No great empire be it the Romanov’s or the Bourbon dynasty; all have met with their demise, Why?
If no one had questioned the ideas of the autocratic Tsars and Emperor’s, the democratic form of government would have never come into existence.

The literary world is full of examples where unquestioned authority leads to suffering and suppression of the common man. In Gorge Orwell’s Animal Farm we see the ture picture of the Russian Revolution. It demonstrates how the inability or unwillingness to question authority forces working class to suffer the ruling class’s opposition.

History is also proof, that not questioning the ideas of people in authority can lead to a catastrophe for the common man. If we take a closer look at the revolutions in the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe, it was the common man protesting against the ideas of the kings. It is not always necessary that people in authority know what is best and to remind them of the founding human principles.

Hence, we see from all the above given examples that questioning authority is as important as having leaders itself. The power of the masses is a great asset that we have and we must us it to express our grievances otherwise we will forever live the oppression of those in power.

I would say a 10.
