Prompt: Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority?

While the ideas and decisions of authoritative figures are often revered, they're not panaceas for problems of the common people. It is vital that the people being ruled take time to ponder about whether or not the ideologies of the leaders are just, for if they are not, then the people must revolt against the corruption.

In the novel Animal Farm the animals blindly follow Snowball the pig. He persuades them to forfeit their freedom in order to become his subjects. He manipulates them by proclaiming propaganda full of convincing rhetoric. Instead of deciding on their own if they genuinely believe his ideals, they haphazardly accept them as if they are their own. He even coaxes the horses to their own deaths since they never come to terms with Snowball's deceit. If the animals had united together and discovered how poor of a ruler he was, then they could have overthrown him.

Similar to the situation in Animal Farm, years ago my brother and I were led by people who were taking advantage of us, our very own parents. We labored long and hard on our chores. I had to vacuum the house, sweep the floor, keep my room tidy, and do several other tedious, tiring tasks. My brother had like obligations. One day we consulted each other about how unfair it was that we were each solely being paid five dollars per week. We knew our efforts were worth more, so we lobbied with our parents to raise our weekly allowances to ten dollars. By questioning our parents, forming an alliance, and presenting our argument against them we obtained our desired outcome.

When a leader presents him- or herself as dignified and powerful citizens resort to acting like a colony of ants, uniformly following him or her. They strip themselves of their individuality and innate intellectual abilities to accept the ruler as is. In the end, they find themselves unsatisfied. On the contrary, those who challenge authority are the ones you truly benefit, for they are the individuals who fight for their rights.

I would add a hook at the beginning to get the readers attention then I would also try to use more examples but other than that I’d say it’s pretty good!

any more opinions?
