Assignment: Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority?

ESSAY BEGINS:

How do we react to the decisions of those with authority? Do we let ourselves be led blindly? Or do we question every decision leaders take? While trust between the government and citizens is momentous, citizens ought to know which path they are being led to and choose whether they are gratified by it or not.

Throughout history the lack of questioning has had various drawbacks on societies. Take for instance, the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. After Napoleon had created an Empire that included most of Europe, his Empire collapsed due to the lack of questioning of his people. In this case, the lack of questioning led to the death of a legion French soldiers, the decline of France, his banishing, and, ultimately, his death.

Another epitome is the former president of Egypt, Muhammad Hosney Mubarak. While at first loved and trusted by his people, the lack of questioning, again, turned things upside down. This time, it created a dictator leadership that lasted for nearly three decades. After the disparity applied by Mubarak and his government became blatant, the people of Egypt grew wrathful and demanded their rights. All because of the lack of questioning of authority.

With all that being said, we, as nations, ought not to be led as groups of sheep. We must know where we are and where we’re heading. We must question every little detail about our government’s actions. We should use our minds to identify our needs, purposes, and rights.
