-Shadowed Doctors at Overland Park Regional Center Spring 2005
-Medical Research Internship Summer 2005
Participated in a medical research internship with a Kansas University Medical Center physician. This was very intense, as we were researching why pre-mature human babies went blind few months after birth. We used rats as subjects, since their eye patterns are similar to humans, and we fed them different types of food to see what caused the blindness in the eyes and what could be done to prevent them. I had to dissect the eyes out of the rats and analyze them. I most likely will be published for this, but the study is still going on, so I don't know when I will be published.

Possible Hooks
Have 2,000+ combined volunteer hours.
Possibly will be published for the research.
First generation Indian male (don't know if that is a hook)

I will have decent-good teacher rec's, and my essay will be about my research at KU.

Obviously I want a career in medicine, and I am applying to all medical schools with the HPME programs.
I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks for your time!!

Definitely get in at Vanderbilt if you raise your SAT. They have an ENGAGE med program that you might want to look into. I don't know anything about the others except that they are very competitive.

bump.......more feedback would be appreciated!

bump....come on guys, can anyone give me more feedback? i really want to know what are my chances at applying ED for Washington University and Northwestern University.

The Northwestern HPME's average stats (class of 2007) were 1535 (old SAT I) and 2300 (SAT II chem/math2c/writing). You really need to raise your test scores significantly to have a chance. Other combined med programs on your list have a bit lower scores than HPME but they are still substantially higher than your current scores.
