My plea to all readers is just to briefly evaluate my chances to get into princeton. I know that I'm only a freshman, but I've been so anxious about getting in, I just want to know my chances.

You're a freshman; what are you doing wondering about colleges now? You have 3 more years to plan for college. Besides, your freshman year is a time for getting adjusted to high school, and colleges know that. Finally, how can you be a Princeton addict in 9th grade? You can't live your whole high school life in preparation for Princeton. You go through a lot of changes over 4 years of high school, and to set your sights on Princeton now is short sighted and naive. When I was your age I thought that I liked Stanford, and now that I'm a senior, I can't stand the place. You shouldn't worry about doing your activities for college; at this point do the things that you enjoy. If you force yourself to do something purely for college you will only make yourself unhappy.

having college goals freshman year is AWESOME and it helps u set a track. im glad u picked princeton as ur goal college so u aim high and shoot high throughout the rest of ur high school career and like theo said u MAY change ur college choice but thinking about college freshman year is definitely the way to start. my school starts preparing you for college freshman year and we start our resumes then and sophomore year we fill out the common app and write personal statements so i think u are on the rite track.

first thing, if you're that high strung about college already, you're gonna burn out and screw up sometime down the road. my stats were like exactly like that at the end of freshman year and i had no idea where i thought i could go until freshman year was over. i thought i sucked too badly at language arts to aim at HYPSM, and here i am applied to all five. i think my favorite school freshman year was penn. i forget, ive cycled between caltech and mit when i was real little to penn to harvard to stanford.

shrug so after that rambling im just gonna say CHILL OUT. =P

Yeah I agree. You're a freshman, so stop worrying about college and worry about school first! I, for one, fell in love with Princeton after I applied! And as for making yourself a stronger applicant, well, I had no idea what their app asked about until after my senior year had ended, so I did a lot of searchback to find things to write. Still stand a chance (i.e.not yet rejected). You'll be fine. Just work your ass off, don't slack, and don't prepare conscioulsly for Princeton. Four years is a LOT of time. Good luck.

PS: Delete your CC ID and don't log back in before your junior year.

Look, I think you guys scared him/her away.
I do agree with everything that's been said, though. How stressful would high school be if for four years, you're only thinking about getting into Princeton? Like someone has said before, there are people who get great grades freshman year but get burned out in the middle of hs. As for your extracurriculars, who knows where and how far you may go with those? You might end up dabbling in many things, or you may turn out to be a genius in some field or make some great contribution... you never know. The only thing you can do is keep doing what you are interested in. Do keep an eye on your grades, though. Also, try to participate in and out of class and show real interest (or better yet, develop interest) in your subjects. That'll probably get you a good recommendation. As for the essays, I wouldn't start them yet. Two of the essays that I used the most for colleges were about things that happened within the past year or two. Don't stress out too much about colleges yet; just do what you want to do. Right now, it's impossible to tell if you'll become a high school drop out or you'll get accepted to every single Ivy and get scholarships from all others.

pick something you are passionate about and pursue it in the face of overwhelming odds.... and have fun while doing it

for example, I started a young dems club in my little conservative town with a church on every corner..... I was reviled in the newspapers and people in the club had their house and car vandalized.....

but, we persevered and we managed to give a voice to the miniscule number of democrats in my town

not only did my local town's 2 newspapers take notice, both of them were filled with an angry editorial written by the chairman of the republican committee calling us "thugs" and "without morals"

they also used their deep pockets to buy ad space near the editorial page. It was so blatantly partisan it was comical :D.... I still have a copy of that article

start a few clubs...work on them for the next couple of years. do something SPECTACULAR that will set you apart from the rest of the applicants.

Is that sarcasm, or is that for real?!

Merc, you do realize that preparation for college entrance exams in india (specifically the JEE) start from 8th grade sometimes?? In my opinion, thats even crazier

No, shah_rao, it was right after I applied, and joined CC. The ED crowd here was superb (as we've said countless times) and the period from early November to mid-December was when I found out more about Princeton than I had intended to.
