Hello,
I've have been working on the UC app for the past 2 weeks now and I'm still not sure if I should apply to CNR or L & S. UCB is my dream school and I really want to get in.
I really like the majors that CNR offers (MEB) but I was wondering.. How competitive is it to get in?
Is it more competitive than L & S? Do they admit people for the spring?
I know I have posted I a lot of threads but I'm really stressed and don't really know who to ask.
If you go to CNR, could you please post your stats?

I’m currently in CNR, my major is Environmental Sciences (physical science concentration). From what I hear, the selectivity between L&S and CNR is pretty similar, so if I were you, I would just apply for MEB since it sounds like your top choice. Here are my HS stats:

GPA: W 4.46, UW 4.0, UC 4.24
SAT: 2160 (CR 640, M 750, W 770), CR was the bane of my existence
SAT II: Math II 800, Physics 780
AP: 5 (US History, Env Sci, Calc AB, Phys C: Mech, Psych, Macroecon), 4 (US Gov & Pol)
ECs: almost nothing, some volunteer work here and there

Honestly, I was pretty shocked when I got into Cal (I was pretty set on UCSD or Davis for about 3 years). Chances are your stats are better than mine. Good luck with the app and eventually admissions!

Thank you for your reply. Your stats are actually a lot better than mine. My UW GPA is 3.8 W 4.1 and my UC gpa should be something around ~3.9-4.0
I have done a lot of volunteering and other extracurricular activities.
I got an 800 on the spanish SAT and will be taking another subject test in december.
I’m also going to be retaking the ACT, I got a 25 but know I can do much better.

It is a matter of opinion but I would recomend applying to L&S, becasue they do accept more incoming freshman, In addition I know you are set on the MEB Major but L&S offers alot more choices and you may not be 100 percent sure on your major, if once you get here ( and get accpeted) it is Very easy to change colleges. In my OPINION it is easier to get into L&S, and then change colleges!

CNR is the business. You have access to your advisors pretty much whenever, a smaller learning environment, and some of the coolest majors on campus. I can’t say much on selectivity between CNR and L&S, but I know CNR only admits for fall (no spring/second semester/FPF admits). Good luck!

i was recently admitted to CNR under the major Society and Environment. the goal is to go to law school after so that i can eventually practice environmental law. im trying to make my decision between uc davis (environmental policy analysis and planning) and cal. i like how you said the advisors are available a lot. any other advice (likes/dislikes?) you can send my way? are classes smaller than average since its a smaller campus? is it cutthroat competitive like some of the other majors, or more chill? any advice will help. :)

I got into CNR out of high school and was told the competitiveness is similar. CNR is the best!! my advisers know me by name and talk through my schedule with me - the majors are all the best and if you take advantage of free printing/cute potluck events you will meet some cool people. only downside is it’s wedged in the farthest corner of campus (if you live on southside). when I applied I didn’t really give any thought to the competitive-ness, and with your stats I wouldn’t worry either. transferring colleges is a hassle.
