Hi, my friend has been accepted to Cornell and Carnegie but for Cornell she'll only have to pay about $10000 whereas for Carnegie she'll have to pay $25000. However, she would rather go to Carnegie than Cornell so I have a question if it is possible to inform Carnegie of Cornell's offer and ask if they could make a match. Does anyone know if this is possible? I know of someone who made a deal with Columbia and Duke this way but can this be done with Carnegie and Cornell too?

Thanks for your help.

“Them” should take the time and effort to read the threads. Good preparation for either college. But I’m being magnanimous today, and supplying the thread,

Why does your friend not ask the question?

Sorry, but I just joined college confidential so I have not looked at every single thread, and anyway, I don’t think it was very hard for you to answer my question. Thank you for your generosity.

musicispassion, LongPrime pays big bucks to be one of the bigger jerks on this board.

I think that your friend can negotiate, especially since Cornell is considered a more reputed college. I’ve heard CMU FA is stingy but it’s always worth the try…they might want your friend badly enough.

Thanks GregoryHouse! Carnegie’s FA is very irritating, but like you said, it’s worth a try.
