Hi, I don't post very much but I really need some help and advice. I have limited my college choices down to U of Minnesota-twin cities, U of Michigan Ann Arbor, and U of Wisconsin and I am completely torn. (FYI: I am going to be a pre-pharm major) I really don't have much of an idea what each campus is like or what makes them different because I am unable to visit any of them due to hard financial situations. Any one who has visitied, or goes to, any of these schools that could give me their input would be greatly appreciate. If you could mention things like dorms, honors programs, food, aesthetics, social life etc. that would be great too. Thanks.

From a person who has lived in the area and also lived outside that area pick 1) Mich Ann Arbor 2) Madison then finally 3) UMN… UMN has one of the best medical programs in the world, but no one really knows that outside the upper midwest. I lived in MN my whole life and through highschool then transferred to go to school in California. Almost everyone here has heard of Mich Ann Arbor and Madison, but no one has ever heard of the U of M. If you plan to carry prestigue and a stronger application for a grad school outside the upper midwest go for one of the first 2. U of M does not get any credit outside MN. In that area you have University of Chicago, NorthWestern, UW Madison, and also UM Ann Arbor all top 40 schools to say that least. U of M does not rank close to those and when going for a job interview those HRs look at those ratings for hiring.

Since you’re planning to do pre-pharm, I’d suggest going to Madison because I’ve heard they have one of the best pre-pharm programs. As for actually getting into pharmacy schools I’m sure you’d have a good chance wherever you go because I know they don’t really look at what school you’re from, just mostly your Math/Science and overall GPA, PCAT scores, how involved you’ve been with the field (volunteering, shadowing, working in a pharmacy setting) so obviously those can be done anywhere. I must warn you though, if you’re planning on staying in MN for pharm school, they give no in-state advantage and REALLYYY want you to have a Bachelor’s Degree before/during applying.

But if you do decide to come to MN we can commiserate together or something, hahaha.
