hello,
I'm a high school senior and I was rejected from the college of my choice, Berkeley. Because of my AP credits, i am able to finish my 60 units at a cc in a year. I plan on applying this fall as an environmental economics and policy major. I just need to know exactly what i should do to ensure that i get in the second time around. Realistically, what gpa should i shoot for? what are some good extracurriculars i should particpate in? Any advice would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.
Thank You

aim for a 4.0, and if you have a lot of ap units, then take your major courses first and also plan on completing igetc. The gpa ranges for admission is usually 3.75 to 4.0, but if you want to be competitive, try 3.8 or better. Extracurriculars are good, and you should do join or participate in things that interest you. GPA is the most important factor though

Just do your best… portray yourself as a well-rounded student in your application. We’re all human, so if you’re trying to aim for a 4.0 go for it, but don’t over-stress or get burned-out because in the long run it will harm you… noone is perfect.

Best of luck to you!

And it’s not all about gpa…imagine what kind of school Cal would be if every single person who got in had a 4.0, perfect stats, and such… pretty damn boring -_-

and from what it seems like, hearing that you have the AP credits to transfer out within a year, you take school seriously and are confident about what you want (getting into Cal the 2nd time around)… I think you’ll be totally fine again, good luck.

a 3.69 was 25th percentile for admitted students for last year.

Thank you all for the advice

You realistically need something above a 3.6. A 4.0 isn’t really a requirement for cal anywhere, and honestly it depends on the major. The school of business requires basically above a 3.8 to be seriosuly considered, and great essays are a must or you will get rejected, even if you have a 4.0. The major you’re talking about is a new one with a foreign language requirement if I recall corectly, so I’m not too sure.

^ theres no foreign language req for EEP, except for the one for IGETC, ur thinking about PEIS in which u need the equivalent of 4 years in any foreign language

Not all about GPA is right. My friend and I both got into UCLA as bio majors but we were both rejected at Cal. My gpa was a 3.85 and his was a 4.0. Thats ok though everything works out in the end.

I just applied this year as an ESPM major at Cal and got in with a 3.6! My extracurriculars included volunteering at an Aquarium for a year, then getting a job at the aquarium along with work experience in a restaurant. I also worked really hard on the essays.
So definitely make sure they know you are a “unique” individual. There are a lot of pre-reqs though, and 60 units is a lot for a year. At least for the Molecular Environmental Biology major and I spent 3 years at community college :/
