Please help chance and suggest schools to a female in computer science

Hey guys

So I am a senior and I have applied to a couple schools, and almost done applying to a few of my match schools, but I am honestly not sure if my college list is good enough or not…I want to major in Computer science and want to make sure that I am not missing out on applying to any good programs that I have a good shot of getting accepted at…here’s a little bit about me and the colleges that I are on my list so far:

So, I am a female who wants to major in Computer Science

GPA (UW/W): 92.6% / 100.93%

ACT: 1st test - 30 C, 25 E, 30 R, 31 S, 34 M
2ndtest- 31 C, 28 E, 29 R, 34 S, 33 M

ACT superscored is 32

I am not sending in my SAT, but I got a 2070 - 590 in Reading, 730 in Math, and 750 in Writing…I will say that I struggle with critical reading because English is not my first language and I have always been a math and science student…I moved here from India when I was 9, so relatively older than when other kids have moved here…but I guess there’s no excuse for low scores…

I go to a competitive high school in PA and my rank is 42/ 600 students (approx.)

I will have taken a total of 14 AP classes, 1 IB class, and 7 honors classes by the end of Senior year
this year I am taking 4 AP and 1 honors
I have taken AP Comp Sci as a junior and I am currently taking AP Calc BC and AP Stats, if that does anything

Here’s a link to the rest of my resume: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13hW4uQo-_y-t3h434uNp1OwNBc88RcYgMl-VvGc_w38/edit?usp=sharing

Here is a list of schools that I am definitely applying to or have already applied to:

UC Berkeley
UCLA
Duke
GA Tech
U of Illinois - UC
Penn State Schreyer
Purdue
Stanford
UT - Austin

Please feel free to suggest me any other good schools or even tell me if I definitely do not have a shot at any of the above schools, I really appreciate the help, thank you!

ok so for some reason the link isn’t working… ?
but in the address bar…just replace the **** with docs.google.com

I would say Duke and Stanford are far reaches. Penn State is a likely. Out of state at the A schools - you just never know. The others are matches
Have you thought about Lehigh?

sorry i apologize…i guess it doesnt let me say any websites… the *** is the google docs url in the beginning that goes docs dot google dot com

Are you to afford the costs of the OOS schools? Do you need FA?

@wisteria100 I know Duke and Stanford are definitely far far reaches…I took a bunch of other schools off my list too too like carnegie mellon, cornell, MIT, caltech…i am honestly very discouraged to apply even just for fun because I feel like I have a 0% chance of getting in and its a waste of money to apply there…I tried to get my scores up…and i spent hours and hours studying…i just didn’t succeed…i am honestly feeling like a failure right now…my number one choice right now is GA Tech and my stats are all up to par, but i am discouraged from everything at this point

Hey! I cant see your resume, but assuming your extracurriculars are above average, here is what i think:
UC Berkeley-Match
UCLA-safety
Duke-low reach
GA Tech-match
U of Illinois - Match
Penn State Schreyer-match
Purdue-match
Stanford-high reach for anyone lol
UT - Austin-match

Try apying to Carnegie Mellon or cit if ur interested in compsci–they offer great programs:)

@PinkManatee thank you so much for the input  …i hope i get into atleast 3 or 4 of those match schools …otherwise all hell will break loose for my indian parents lol

@Gumbymom I will need some FA maybe, but not a lot…my parents say they will pay as soon as i get into a top 30 computer science program

Can they pay full price for all the out of state schools on your list? Penn State and Purdue are matches. The rest are reaches.

@intparent no and thanks for the input

Some are more reach than others. Cornell is better than Stanford. CMU is better than MIT. I mean odds wise.
Purdue and Georgia Tech are reasonable.

UCLA and UCB will cost you around $55K/year as an OOS student with little to no FA. Also UCLA is definitely not a safety and UCB is not a Match. Their acceptance rate for CS is around 10%. If anything they are a High Match schools. You are a competitive applicant, but so are the thousands of students that apply to these schools each year.

Good Luck.

@DrGoogle I will definitely consider what you said, thank you. Also, exactly what do You think my chances are at GA tech?

In the past, It has high acceptance rate but it’s a very hard school to do well there. One person who works in my group went there and she said it was hard for her.
Also have you thought about UIUC, it’s actually rank better than UCLA for CS.

I would put University of Pittsburgh on the list. They will superscore and consider your 34 M and 28 E, average of 32 ACT. That might be enough for honors college.

What schools have computer science and would give you merit?

Temple might be another option, but not sure if they super score. Otherwise a 32 ACT and 3.8 GPA in academic courses would get you full tuition.

@Gumbymom I agree it is very expensive and the chances of getting accepted are low, we would only be able to pay maybe $35k per year anyway, but do you have any other schools to suggest that I might have a better shot at?

You might want to consider Santa Clara University. It is in the heart of the Silicon valley, so an excellent location for CS. They are private but would give you some decent FA.

@mommdc Thank you for the reply! I have considered those schools and they are great schools by all means, but I don’t think they are the best options for computer science
