Please Help Chance Me for these Schools?!

I made an earlier post about which schools to narrow down as I currently have 23 schools on the list. I think I need to compare my chances of admission/financial aid (merit, need-blind, grants, scholarships) for these schools in order to narrow it down.

Also please offer advice on which school to ED to (I’m looking at UChicago, Cornell, Northwestern, UPenn Wharton, or Columbia because they are high reach schools and might improve my chances for admission)

I’m interested in majoring in business or maybe economics.

For Purdue, UTexas, UMichigan, UVirginia, Georgia Tech, and Indiana Bloomington, they have good business programs, but I am applying to see if I can get a lot of financial aid/scholarships since I’m OOS.
In general, I like larger schools in an urban/suburban area and overall school ranking is also important to me (preferrably top 30 or so, otherwise I would settle for OSU which is my safety school). I would mainly just like to apply to reach schools ranked top.

I would really appreciate if you could chance me for any of these schools and let me know which schools are or aren’t worth applying to! Also a ranking of these schools’ business programs would really help!

Chance me for these schools:
NYU (aiming for Stern program) - possible, but probably not much FA
USC - reach for admittance and no chance at aid
Berkeley - reach for admittance and no chance at aid
UCLA - reach for admittance and no chance at aid
CMU - possible for admittance
UChicago - big reach for admittance
Columbia - big reach for admittance
Cornell - reach for admittance
Emory - possible
Georgetown - reach for admittance
URochester - possible
UMichigan - reach of OSS admittance
UNC - reach of OOS admittance, possible aid if get in
Northwestern - reach for admittance
UPenn - reach for admittance
Vanderbilt - reach for admittance
WashU in St. Louis - reach for admittance

Around how much financial aid will I be able to receive for these schools:
OSU - Likely to get in, possible for some aid. Likely not a full ride though.
Purdue - possible acceptance, not much aid
UVirginia - reach for OOS admittance
Georgia Tech - reach
Indiana Bloomington (Kelley) - possible acceptance, maybe some aid
UTexas - big reach for OOS admittance

As mentioned in several of the 27 replies to your other post, UC’s & NYU are likely out of reach financially even if you get in. Is it worth applying to all these reaches? well, that’s up to you - how much time/money/effort/emotional capital do you have to invest in applying to all these schools??

Likelies are OSU, IU, Rochester, maybe Purdue, Emory, CMU. Add Case Western, Miami (OH) & Ohio U to have chance at more merit money from those schools.

In general your stats (3.73 UW, 33 single sitting ACT) are good but likely not remarkable enough to really impress reach schools. Your ECs are pretty decent, and show an involved and earnest student, so you will get offers from some really good schools.

As for ED, I don’t see much of a bump for you to do ED anywhere in particular. Is there a reach school that you really want over all others, and can afford to go to? If so, consider ED there. Please run the net price calculators at the reach schools to see if any of them are affordable at all.

Finally, please go back and read the replies from your earlier post. Lots of good advice there as well.

^ Agree! However, I consider NYU-Stern a reach too. Too many reaches in your list!

Have you checked the NPCs for these schools? You are not likely to get merit scholarships from those OOS schools on your list. Your GPA also makes the admission chance not very good at them. From your letter grades, your UMich recalculate uwGPA is around 3.5 which is very significantly below the admission average of 3.87. You may remove it from the list.

You listed your family income as >100k. Assuming that it is less than 200k, I would drop UCLA and UC Berkeley from the list because I think that your chance of substantial financial aid is zero.

You have a lot of reaches. However, OSU is a very good school and if it is also a safety from both the point of view of admission and also finances, then I can see that there is little point in applying to a “less than top” school that you would not prefer to OSU. On the other hand, having two safeties is not a bad idea.

I don’t think that it makes any sense to apply ED unless you are really sure that there is one school which you want to go to as a strong first choice, and that you have at least some chance of getting into ED.

As such, I would be inclined to get your application into OSU early, don’t bother with ED, and cut your reach schools in half. Adding another low match / safety might be a good idea also.
