<p>Hi, i was wondering what my chances were of getting in to Uconn. I'm thinking about the premed program, or at least honors. I am completely in love with the school, campus, and selection of majors/classes, but I am really discouraged because I have a very low GPA (3.2 unweighted)
Currently as a junior i have taken all honors/aps possible for my school(AP US history and AP Humanities)
and Senior year I will take: AP Bio, AP Psychology, AP Lit, AP Chem, and AP Calc w. all other honors
My extra curriculars are:
-Allstate band 4 years so far, ranked 11 in state for clarinet
-Piano (played since I was 6, did a Virtuoso club for 3 years, and I volunteer every spring/winter/summer break at a shelter to play for the elderly)
-After School Band/Orchestra program
-Varsity Field hockey 3 yrs
-Varsity Outdoor track 3 years (coaches award)
-currently ranked 14th in long jump and 16th in triple jump
-National Honor Society member
-Volunteered at a pharmacy lab for 3 years
-Attended the Annual International Society of Toxicology conference to present 2 projects of data(2011)
-Will attend the 2012 conference as well ^
-Attended the 2011 Regional Society of Toxicology conference to present
-Volunteered at a hospital for 2 years
-Class historian for 3 years
-Volunteering in tutoring program at school
-Medical volunteering program at school
-Writing a newspaper article column series published in Asia about american culture vs. asian culture (new article every month)
-SAT Score 2260</p>
<p>If anyone could give me advice or any helpful suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!</p>
<p>the premed program is really hard to get into, bring your gpa up and you’ll have a better chance
but incredible SAT score omg! that’ll definitely stand out and help
because i know people who have got in to the med program with much lower SAT scores but a higher gpa
also when your applying make sure you reach out to the school its shows your interested and always helps a little!
:)</p>
<p>I’d say that you have pretty good chance to get in. Especially with that high SAT. Although this year I know that getting into UConn is going to be harder. They received like a 40% increase in applicants last year which bombarded their admin office.</p>
<p>Last year, I applied for EA in October and got in. 3.36 GPA and 1940 SAT with orchestra, music, and sports EC’s just like many others. Very meh… but I think you’ll get in.</p>
<p>As for the HONORS program, I’ve heard rumors that as long as your SAT Math+Reading is above a 1400 you’ll automatically get in. I know for a fact that after your 1st semester in Uconn if you get a 3.5+ GPA or higher they give you an opportunity to apply for the honors program. Me and a bunch of my friends got an email about that. Jus’ lettin’ ya kno!</p>
<p>Im still a junior, in highschool, my overall gpa is 3.0. only 2 honor classes, no extra curricular and only volunteered at hospital for a year (3 weeks). Haven’t taken SAT’s yet but lets say that it is around 1800-2000. What are my chances of getting in to one of the branches or storrs? better to go to a cc and transfer, or eastern? :(</p>
<p>College Senior here!
I, like you, had a mediocre GPA (3.32). Additionally, I was in the 11th percent of my class(AKA I wasn’t even top 10%), yet I still got into the honors program. I think that you have a really good shot as long as you keep taking challenging courses and write a good college essay.
For reference purposes, my SAT score was a 2120 ( 740 CR, 700 M 680 W)</p>
<p>@ lauramwentworth, thank you so much for the encouragement! I’ll definitely keep everything in mind when I apply! Did you apply early decision or reg?</p>
