Please Help! Confused about which area in EE to focus on!

Hi,
I am a graduate student pursuing my master's in Electrical Engineering. I'm still in my first year and currently, I'm in the microwave/optics/solid-state track at my school.
I'm very confused as to what research to embark on with regards to my thesis. Moreover, I'm confused as to what area to focus on for my masters. Right now, I'm taking classes here and there but i'm afraid of wasting my time.
I want to work in an area that is transferable in terms of jobs. I'm afraid focusing on just one area might limit my chances of finding a good job.

I want to like what I do and be able to pay the bills. I'm really confused as I feel like i'm just wasting my time in graduate school. Which areas of electrical engineering have the best job outlook? where do you think the future of electrical engineering will be?

Currently, I work in the RF/microwave industry...while that is okay, I'm afraid of focusing solely on that as I'm not sure about the job outlook. I was thinking of doing research in alternative energy but then again...i'm not sure.

I apologize for my lengthy email. However, I'm just very scared and concerned about my future..I don't want to get my master's and feel like it is totally useless.

Please, please help me! I desperately need advice.
