Please help.. D in AP Bio?

Guys, I had carried a C ALL semester. I had a 75 going into finals.
My written final, which I had taken Monday dropped it to a D. I'm distraught--I've never gotten a C in high school so far, and FSU is my number one choice. My GPA uw is 3.7 and I don't know what to do. I've been like crying all afternoon, haha.
As for my other classes, I have two B's (AP Physics and AP Lit) and an A in Pre-calc H. I don't know what happened--obviously I will study my hardest for this MC final, but if I do get a D, will my acceptance be rescinded? Please help me out. Thank you

same situation here. I had a 51 for AP Calc my first marking period and I’m doing really bad this marking period as well. I can only hope to get it up to a C by the end of the semester and keep it there until the end of the year. I doubt I can do this…

I have all A’s in my other classes. I just want to know what the chances are that FSU looks at EVERY single accepted applicants grades at the end of the year and actually rescinds the ones who have gotten anything below a C.

This is really unforgiving but I think Pasbal said that unfortunately even one D (can?) get your admission rescinded. I would like to know the chances of that happening though.

I called my counselor today and received the reply that they would almost absolutely rescind me. I don’t know what this means for you, adeity. Luckily, I figured out that the weighting on my written final is actually a lower percent than it is weighted in the gradebook, currently. (So it goes in for all of my final for the time being, however it’s only worth 5%, whereas the MC final is worth 15%.) So instead of the 64 which it shows I have… it actually only dropped me to a 72. I just have to do spankin’ well on this final and I’ll be good to go, hopefully–fingers crossed… eek…

Sarahez,

Please go talk to your teacher and appraise him/he of the situation. Maybe bring a copy of the Florida State “Conditions of Acceptance” with you. Tell your teacher that you will do extra work, etc. to bring your grade up so that you do not lose this “once in a life-time” opportunity. Maybe a meeting scheduled with her that includes your guidance counselor and your parents-- do anything. I really hope one bad grade does not turn out to be a life-changing event for you.

Above message was not written by Pasbal-- sorry for that Pasbal. I will delete this account name.

I would call FSU and ask them, not your HS counselor. While you don’t want to EVER have a D in any year, one D in an AP Class may not be the death-knoll because FSU gives an extra 1.0 for AP…thus it would be a 2.0 on their scale…in addition, HS credit is on the year not the semester, so you could still end higher. However, be safe and call.

Actually, transcripts from Florida high schools report grades by semester, not year. A semester grade of a D or a F can get your rescinded from FSU. Florida public students can look at their unofficial transcripts through:

Haha I meant my admissions counselor from FSU, not my HS counselor. (And my admissions counselor said I would almost absolutely be rescinded.) Also, I don’t know if anyone on this is wondering–but they also said they could /possibly/ rescind me if I drop the class next semester. So if anyone doing poorly is thinking about dropping a class which FSU thinks you’re taking… they look VERY POORLY upon it. I would call before anything. Anyways, I take my last final tomorrow for biology. I will update you with the results. Wish me luck. Hopefully I end up with my first C, and not my first D. (Plus, even in Arizona, we send grades by semesters as well–so the year thing doesn’t apply.)

So I ended with a 74 (: Thanks everyone for the help though

The way that FSU words things, any change in your senior year schedule, and any “negative trend” in grades can result in your admission being rescinded. As for what they define as a negative trend, it’s basically been narrowed down to nothing below a C, although the way that it is worded, in theory even a drop from all As to all Bs could actually be considered a negative trend in theory (though I highly doubt that would happen).

I know that people have had their admission rescinded before for getting bad grades senior year. I have heard that alerting FSU to any potential issues once they happen is a way to help reduce chances of acceptance being rescinded, though I have never seen anything to solidify that suggestion.

It happens every year though that people get their acceptances rescinded. I have even seen reports that some students that started in the summer term were basically told by FSU that they could finish the summer but wouldn’t be welcome back in the Fall due to something that come up with their end of year grades/transcripts.

Congrats that so far it looks like it won’t happen to you :)
