So our baseball season is just winding down and I have one major question: should I play next year? I am currently a sophomore, I started 4 games this season on varsity and all the JV games. As a freshman, I was on varsity but played a total of 6 innings. This year is more like 20. I will probably play around 35 or 40 next year (lots of depth at pitcher and 2B). The lack of playing time along with the 7 days a week for 10 weeks commitment are the major reasons I don't want to play, along with the fact that I don't actually enjoy baseball and that the coach is horrible. He builds the team on the foundation that once the season starts the lineup does not change no matter what. My grades usually decline during the season as well, and my courses will be exponentially harder next year.

The reason why I am considering staying is really only for my college application. I am not by any means a scholarship player (I come from a AA school with a pretty crappy team), so there is no way I would go to college to play.

If I didn't play, I would probably join the tennis team, which is a lot more relaxed and only like 3 times a week. I am also better at tennis than I am at baseball. So essentially, is extra pain and probably a .1 drop on my GPA worth it to a college?
