Please help identity a college that would be well suited for me!! THX

Hey guys just to start off, I would like to say I really appreciate you guys taking the time to look this over and help me find some colleges to apply to. My life as a child and in high school were terrible and I now have confidence issues. I'm just not sure which college I am good enough for.

I am a white male going into my junior year at a very good public school in northern VA.

Major of choice: Engineering - either petroleum, civil, environmental, biomedical, or maybe chemical.... Not sure yet.

For school classes, I will have taken 9-10 Ap classes by my senior year. I have a 4.31 gpa and straight A's in all ap and honors classes other than one B in calculus AB (family collapsed and grade slipped). I am taking BC this summer to show that I am indeed strong at calculus as I want to major in engineering. This will put me in multivariable my senior year. Hopefully this looks good. I am 10/277 kids in my class (top 5 percent).

Ap scores suck ....
All 3's except I got a 2 on calc Ab (won't report this for sure) I was extremely upset that morning....

I never took the SAT because psat was not my strong point. I avidly pursued the ACT instead. I took it five times (23,27,28,30,33). Obviously I will submit my 33 composite test date. I got a 35 in math and a 35 in English and a 31 in science along with a 29 in reading. They math and English seem to be the two most important sections while math is most important for me as I want to be an engineer so hopefully the 35 looks good.

I took the sat 2s. Got a 770 math II and 690 US history.

My extracurricular activities are very good. I will soon be a eagle scout, Co founder of a nonprofit organization, vice president of model UN, varsity chess and team that took third at states, scored magnum cum laude on national Latin 4 exam, recipient of gold and silver presidential service awards freshman and junior year for over 200+ hours each year, took 2nd at the regional science and engineering fair, I am the number one seed on the tennis team and captain along with three time consecutive mvp, I made districts and won a prestigious tournament (regional), I am in nhs and numerous honor societies, along with a few others I forgot...

So I was planning on applying to UVA and Carnegie Mellon engineering. Could I get in?

What other schools should I apply to ifbi want to major in engineering?

Thanks I truly appreciate your responses.

Wow, you are quite ahead of the game. However, my best advice is to not worry about it too much at this point. I confidently thought I had my college choices all figured out my sophomore summer, but you’ll be pretty surprised how quickly and unexpectedly it changes. (Looking back, I never would have ever guessed my current college choices). BUT as food for thought… UMich, Cornell, Harvey Mudd, University of Illinois, Georgia Tech, CalTech and MIT (of course) all have great engineering.

You think I could get in GA Tech potentially?

UT-Austin is another top 10-15 school for engineering, and it is THE place to be for Petroleum.

Also U Tulsa and U Louisiana/Lafayette for Petroleum Engineering would be a safety for you. Look into Rice, too.

How much can you afford? The best recruited Pet E programs in the contiguous 48 are UT-Austin, Texas A&M, University of Oklahoma (PM me if you want info), Tulsa, and LSU. You should apply to Va Tech since it offers most of what you’re interested in and can serve as an excellent safety assuming you can afford it. Minnesota’s Chem E program is well recruited and well funded.

I would likely need merit aid of I were to go oos

I would apply to Va Tech as well – the school has a fine engineering program.

What exactly can your family afford? Exact price, not just merit aid which can vary from a couple thousand to tens of thousands of dollars per year.

30k tops 40

based on your profile name I’m going to suggest University of Colorado-Boulder
