Please Help...idk If I Have The Right Schools

I just wanted some insight on the schools im gonna apply to, lemme know if you agree with my list or if you suggest any others or think i should take any off...thanks

SAT is 1910 (650 math, 630 reading, 630 writing)

ACT is 29+

GPA- 3.8-3.9

EC's-I have a lot, the usual honor societies (national, math, spanish) the science awards...all those awards. Physics Bowl, National History day for 2 years-placed 3rd one year and recieved national archives recognition, chem award, social studies award 3 years, etc.

The ones i will stress though are these....Community Ambulance Corps for 3 years (1500 hours, 300+ emergencies responded to). Current elected captain of my youth corps, was 1st lieutenant for 1 year, and secretary for 1 year. I received a county award for youth member of the year and received recognition from county policiticans (town supervisors/execs) as well as NY State congressmen and senators, in addition to the department of health. I achieved the highest NYS certification for my age which is a NYS first responder you get after you take a 3 month course followed by a Department of Health written and practical exam.

I also started the first American Red Cross youth chapter in my county...we do blood drives, youth programs, disaster relief fundraisers (raised $1000 for hurricane relief earlier in the year.)

Public relations for my school government, and i am the HS head rep for the district superintendant advisory council...its highly regarded in my district.

yea so thats my basic write up, theres more but thats the main...so heres the schools

Reach

George Wash U
Lehigh U
Colgate
Bucknell
UVA
UNC-chapel hill

Match

Boston U, Villanova, Univ of Maryland, Muhlenberg

Safety

Marist, UMASS, UCONN

so what do you guys think of my chances at these schools and also my choices...thanx alot

UVA and Chapel Hill are quite difficult to get into these days out of state but all the others you should do fine, especially with good letters and recs. Have you taken a competitive courseload. That is very imp. I would also retake the SAT's as a little jump which should occur may make a big difference. Great EC's!! Best of luck!

ya UVA and chapel hill i figured...but you think with my current grades i have a good chance at all the other schools? And yes i do have one of the toughest courseloads in my school. Im gonna graduate with 9 AP's, never had a free period...always filled with an academic course. honors, AP's, language, the works...very tough

Great ,the AP's will help a lot. I would try to grab another 20-40 points at least on the SAT. That would make a huge difference. My D started with a 1210, retook for a 1290 and then 1 more time for 1320. It helped her a lot to just get up into the 1300's. The rest of her profile was much better. Usually just from junior to the start of senior year students increase their score with just maturation, not extensive studying. Good luck!

College of Wooster and Allegheny would be solid match schools.

What are your academic and career interests?

i want to go into pre-med

Add Franklin & Marshall as a match

GW is not a reach at all, match.

Denison would be a match.

even with my SAT's would these schools work?

If a 29 is a 1300 you should be OK, and I would use that. I can't remember the conversion. My son at Pomona used his ACT score of 32 over his SAT score which was lower and just didn't send his SAT's at all. Check the conversion and that may be another option. If it is 1300 you are good to go, of course assuming recs and essays are good.

I think its awful that someone with such great GPA and ECs would be held back just because of SATs...sorry man:( I bet you'll be fine with all fo those schools

ya but why would it make a difference, colleges r gonna look at the SAT's the way they always have and just put the writing on the side...so id have a 1280...why would a 1280 SAT and an ACT equivelant 1300 make any difference...i really wanna go to GW and after reading this board idk it seems like a 1910 isnt good enuf...just looking at my SAT's EC's and GPA and courseload...is a 1910 good enuf for GW...?

Yes, a 1910 should be fine for GW.

Are you applying for Engineering at Lehigh?

I'm not sure I'd be quite so optimistic about GW - their 50% is from 1240 to 1390, and you're at 1280. So it's not by any means a given at all. Your EC's are strong. Where does your GPA put you in class rank? If you're in the top 10%, that will counteract the standardized test scores.

But what puzzles me is your list of schools. I don't see a theme behind choosing schools like Muhlenberg, Bucknell, Colgate, Marist, GW and UMass. What do these schools have in common that attracts you?

they all have strong pre-med/bio programs with high admission % to med school (or so my GC says) ive looked into them, GW i like, marist i like but was somewhat lower in score then what i was looking at, UMASS, BU i also like alot

oh, yes. Sorry ! I should have picked up on your screen name for pre-med.

Add NYU and Emory

NYU and emory...u think id get in there with a 1910 and my stuff???
