I took the SAT for the 1st time on may 7 and as I suspected I would, I did a mediocre job. These were my scores:
Critical Reading 580
Math 510
Writing 520

I'm wondering if I should take it over again and aim for over 1100 or try the act. I need to have my scores in by early december for my top school- george mason- and I don't have time to take a class but I do have the collegeboard guide to the new sat.

Go to the ACT website and take their practice test - see how you like the format, etc. Then decide which test you want to rocus on. You have plenty of time to prepare for either test if you are truly motivated to self-study. Check the Xiggi's method stickied at the top of this forum for tips on how to study for the SAT (which should be similar what you'll need to do for the ACT). Good luck!

and remember if you ever need help with any questions that may stump you during tests, there a bunch of losers (including myself) here on the message board who are more than happy to be of service.

razzle, you should take it again and don't feel bad about your scores or anything, it was your first time taking the new sat's, so don't worry about it. just study and then take it again. I am not taking an sat class and I am studying with the practice tests from the CB blue book. everyone on here says practice is all it really takes to do well. and i did a mediocre job on my sat's (old one though) too, don't worry. good luck!!
