Hey everyone! I am looking to apply early restrictive action at Georgetown, but I'm in a sticky situation. Below, is my SAT score from January, but since then I have been practicing and improving. I am looking to retake the SAT in October along with subject tests in November and possibly December. I feel my scores in the following months will more accurately reflect my ability. However, the early restrictive action application date is November 1st, and colleges look for more qualified applicants, who have all there material/test scores in. I'm afraid I will get rejected from my dream school if I apply early, because I am lacking material and proper scores but I'm not sure. Do I still apply early-restrictive action? Do I even apply early decision/early action anywhere? Could some of you offer me guidance/advice on what next steps I should take in the application process. I also added my extra-curricular activities below if you need to refer to them.

Thank you!

Your chances of getting into G’ Town or a similiar selective school is very low based on both GPA & SAT. I think you need to set your sights a little lower. Perfect example of why students should begin taking the SAT earlier, more time to get your score to where you need it for dream school. However in this case even with an improved SAT, your GPA is going to make getting into highly selective schools a long shot.

State in your essay your grades and test scores do not match with your academic ability. Make sure you pull it off though. What do you plan on majoring in?

I plan on majoring in business, not sure what exactly though…finance or accounting maybe. In the essay do I state that I will send my scores for following tests as soon as I receive them??

Plan for an exceptional first semester senior year, and a 200+ point bump in your SAT scores and apply regular decision.

I don’t agree that you should provide an “explanation” for your scores or grades in your essay. The grades and scores need to speak for themselves. The essay is an additional and complementary part of your application. Use it to provide additional insight into who you’re about and why you would be a good addition to the college’s freshman class.

fogcity–I felt the same way, that’s why I was kind of confused when I saw the above posts. However, do I apply to other universities early…or just do regular decision everywhere? And honestly you feel that if I do make steps forward during my senior year and increase my SAT to about 2200, I have a chance at Georgetown undergraduate business program?

Well, I am looking to improve on October SAT and September ACT as I have been practicing for sometime…that’s why I said my SAT does not match my academic ability. My fault for confusing wording, sorry. Any other feedback? Anyone??

Can I be denied under the Early Action program?
No, Georgetown does not deny students under our Early Action program. If a student is not admitted under EA, his or her application is automatically given a full second review during Regular Decision.

Your stats are on the low 25% of admitted students. The interview is your opportunity to make a really good impression.

You should not apply early. Your stats currently are well below average and there is virtually no chance you will be admitted in that round. Retake the SAT in October and pull up your senior year GPA and apply in the regular decision round. If your SAT and GPA do not substantially improve, then meet with your guidance counselor to find less selective schools that have features that attract you to Georgetown.

My ACT and SAT scores should be back before the early action deadline for Georgetown, however, the first semester of senior year will not be complete. The fact that my first semester grades won’t be seen is troubling me and making me sure when to apply. I know during early action no applicants get rejected, but there is higher acceptance rate. What should I do??

If that’s where you really want to go, then go for it. You can only regret not doing it, right? The quantitative part of your application’s not the only thing they’ll look at.
