Please Help, I'm on the verge of tears........

It’s just that my mom said that she wouldn’t pay my college tuition if I wasn’t going to an Ivy, and I’m not sure she was kidding.

That’s ridiculous. I don’t understand the huge need to go to an ivy, when there are amazing schools like northwestern, mit, duke, and university of chicago. Apparently going to an ivy league defines who you are. A girl I know got a 2350 on her SATs, had a 4.0, had great extracurriculars, and is going to BC. She did not get into any ivies. Does that make her any less smart? No. You need to calm down. Clearly you are not very mature if you think attending an ivy league is the only thing. And if you can’t get the grades that you really want, don’t take such hard classes! You shouldn’t take classes that you are not going to succeed in! Calm down, take a deep breath, and realize that there are amazing schools out there that are even better than the ivies in many majors. The top five ranked schools for biomedical engineering are Johns Hopkins, Duke, Georgia Tech, MIT, and UC San Diego. The top three schools for accounting are UT Austin, University of Illinois, and Brigham Young University! None of those schools are ivies. You will be fine with or without an ivy league education. If you are truly smart, you can succeed wherever you go. Of course, the easiest thing for you to do to improve your grades is take classes that are right for you. If you aren’t going to do well in AP Chem, take AP US History. If you can’t do AP Government, take AP Calc. Or don’t take too many APs. Lastly, calm down. If you don’t start enjoying your high school years, you will look back as an adult and completely regret all the time you spent worrying instead of having fun. So, calm down! Good luck!

Is this thread a joke? Performance art? A sociological experiment?

Jesus effing Christ.

I’m currently attending IU and hopefully transferring to NYU. I’m such a failure. Now that’s something to cry about. :'(

I’m sorry… but your mom needs a really good talking to. If she thinks that Ivy schools are the only acceptable schools… then she perhaps needs to be (will not say).
