please help me choose classes, i have no idea what to do

hi
im in college of engineering and pretty soon i gotta choose classes.
*i plan to graduate in 3 years. * that's my goal.
so can someone please tell me which courses i should take?
i have plenty of AP credits, such as a 5 on AP Calc BC and 5's on AP Physics C and 5 on AP Chem, etc.
i also believe i will pass the swim test so no need to take PE.
as for my major, i honestly have no idea.
so please help me set up a schedule that is NOT specified for a particular major.
Whoever helps me, i really appreciate it.

no matter what, you still have to take two PE classes before you graduate. Passing the swim test doesn’t get you out of taking PE. Just gets you out of having to take swimming as one of your two PE classes.

First semester:
ENGRI (choose one)
FWS
CS 1112
ECON 3010
MATH 1920
PE
you will be autoenrolled in an ENGRG 1050

Second semester:
MATH 2930
MATH 2940
PHYS 2214
ENGRD (depending on your major, probably ENGRD 2020)
FWS
CS 1130 (1cr)
PE (1cr)

If you pick a major, I can help you a bit more. (I saw on another page you said either mechanical or civil)
Also, I need a FULL list of your AP scores.

How ****ing hard is it to pick courses?

Just go and look at the ****ing course catalog on the
cornell site. And go and look at the degree requirements
on the engineering site. And then go from there. And if you’re
still not sure then go and talk to your adviser in the fall, that’s
what they are for. Its not that hard, so you don’t really need
to make a thread.

thx for the suggestion chendrix
and as for my major, i thought mech or civil but i changed my mind again. still undecided…
AP Calc AB, BC: 5
AP Physics B: 5
AP Physics C: 5,5
AP US History: 5
AP macroecon: 4
AP Gov’t: 4
AP Stat: 5
AP Chem: 5
AP English: 4, 4

That means you get ECON 1120 (SBA), GOVT1111 (SBA), and HIST 1530 (HA) credits.

For liberal arts, scratch the ECON 3010 first semester, since you already have two SBAs. You will need to find a 2000 level or above one from here: [Liberal studies courses](<a href=“US Sai Organization”>US Sai Organization) in anything other than SBA or HA.

How are you planning on graduating in 3 years if YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO MAJOR IN? The differences between majors is HUGE and you cannot begin to schedule ahead if you have no idea what you are required to take.

You need to think NOW if you really want to do this.

yeah, i’m not sure how you came to the conclusion that you will graduate in 3 years for a program not yet determined. You made a thread…for this?

haha ok
honestly, im leaning towards materials science and engineering.

so for the first semester, here is what i came up with

PE
MATH 1920
ENGRG 1050
CS1112
FWS
CHIN 2201 or 2202 depending on how i do on placement exam (im not chinese btw)
and for ENGRI, which one should i do that would best prepare me for MS&E?
maybe ENGRI 1110 nanotechnology?

thx

Don’t do a foreign language, ESPECIALLY not Mandarin. It’s not worth the effort you put in. Do a different liberal studies. You will thank me.

None of the ENGRIs will “prepare” you for anything (except maybe Intro to ChemE) so take whichever one you like.

And btw, I hope you are ready for a crazy ride, because this is a lot to do in 3 years.

For MSE:
Fall 2010 - Math 1920, ENGRG 1050, CS 1112, FWS, Liberal Studies (>2000), ENGRI.
Spring 2011 - Math 2930, 2940, Phys 2214, MSE 2620, FWS, PE, CS 1130
Fall 2011 - MSE 2610, MSE 3010, MSE 3030, MSE 3070, MSE 3110, Liberal Studies (>2000)
Spring 2012 - MSE 2060, MSE 3040, MSE 3050, MSE 3120, Liberal Studies (>2000), ENGRD 2020 (outside tech elective)
Fall 2012 - MSE 4020, MSE 4030, MSE 4070, 2 Materials applications electives (outside MSE), 1 approved elective
Spring 2013 - MSE 4040, 1 Material application elective (inside MSE), 2 Materials electives (inside MSE), 2 approved electives (1 which satisfies mathematical modeling requirement)

That schedule satisfies all requirements of MSE & College of Engineering. Good luck, and ask if you have more questions.

ok thx for ur help.
i just wanted to do mandarin cuz ive lived in taiwan for a year and wanted to perfect my chinese.
would living in taiwan for a year lessen the workload at all? cuz id really rather take mandarin than other electives…

I doubt it, but if you want to, you can always try.

Why exactly do you want to graduate in 3 years?

to minimize college cost.
if 3 year fails then 3.5 year would work as well.
but really, thx for ur help.
