please help me. college stuff is ruining my summer. =(

Hey. Sorry I am very new at this. I am part of Class 2008 and I am not very picky about which UC I get into. However, I am aiming for UC Davis, UC Irvine, or UC San Diego. I have not received my 2nd semester grades for junior year but so far:

[By the way all these GPA's are unweighted. My school doesn't do it for us, so it would be nice if you could tell me my weighted GPA's. =)]

Freshman Year-
4.0 both semesters. No honors or AP's.
Sophomore Year-
First Semester: 3.33 [4B's & 2A's ; a "B" in Honors Chem]
Second Semester: 3.833 [A in Honors Chem]
Junior Year-
First Semester: 3.66
4 A's [one of them is APUSH], "B" in Honors PreCal.

-As of before second semester, my cumulative is 3.766 unweighted.
-Class rank is 44/700
-CAL Grant is 3.61 (?)

Other Stuff

Community Service:
-22 hours tutoring elementary kids.
-20 hours different things for the city.
-183 hours from summer day camp with children.
- currently I am receiving hours for helping kids with disabilities.
[As you can probably tell, I want to be a teacher. Haha.]

Work:
I have had a job for a year now. I maintained a job during junior year and I guess that is my "sport." I may also be promoted to manager? if that helps.

Clubs:
Only a couple and I haven't been very active in them, except the Tutoring Club sophomore year.

SAT1:
Oh gosh, I didn't do so well. I got 1830. I will retake them, but my counselor told me that is already good enough for Davis but I don't know ...

SAT2:
US History- 590 (I'm going to retake that as well)
Math 2C- 650 (I'm thinking about retaking that)

and I haven't taken ACT but I don't know if I should.

Okay I think that is it! I'm just wondering if I have any chance towards those colleges. Any input would be sooo appreciated. As you can see, I am lost!! =)

You're in state so you're probably in at those UCs.

I'm not in US but based on my experience, the right choices ususallly should not take too long to make. If it's ruining your summer then you need to have some fun and relax and trust your heart. Your heart obviously doesn't want your summer to be ruined, so you know what to do. :)

retake your SAT's and go for LA and B too!

Well you should apply to LA and B but don't get your hopes up too much since your stats are somewhat below the averages. But hey, since you're in-state who knows?

I would definitely retake the SAT's if I were you, and the subjects as well. If you do well on those, Davis is a match and Irvine and Sandiego are likely matches as well.

thanks you guys =)

UCs don't go by weighted or unweighted. They use UC GPA, which is sophomore and junior year grades only, weighted GPA minus any grades in health, or student government or teaching assistantships and is capped at 8 semesters of honors courses.

You UC GPA (if you got the same grades in your second semester as in your first) would be 3.875

Based upon a 1830 SAT I score, and two SAT IIs totalling 1240, you're chances are as follows at the UCs:

UC Berkeley/UCLA--Big Reach
UCSD--Slight Reach
UC Davis/ UC Santa Barbara/ UC Irvine--Match
UC Santa Cruz/ UC Riverside--Safe Match
UC Merced--Guaranteed (Safety)

P.S. To give you an idea, the average admit at UC Davis last year had a 3.89 UC GPA and a SAT I score of 1850 or so. So you fit the stats almost perfectly.

You are looking good. Enjoy your summer!
