this is killing me!!!i need to decide by this weekend if i want to send my deposit to georgetown MSB or cornell CAS (econ major). Both are great schools with great reputations but i feel like they are both very different...

on the one hand, i loved georgetown when i visited and i have alot of friends there. DC is alot of fun and i would probably enjoy the course package i would get at MSB more than cornell's. However, i feel like cornell might be more prestigious and... well... its in that special little league that everyone wants to be a part of. however, i also know cornell has a reputation for being alot of work. in the end, i'm sure i would have just as much as fun at cornell as i would at georgetown (just in a different environment).

everyone (family, friends, etc.) i have spoken to thinks i should go to georgetown because the difference in academic reputation and prestige between georgetown and cornell is negligible.

anyone have any advice? i would really really really appreciate it.

It sounds to me like your mind is already made up. If you think you will enjoy the curriculum at Georgetown more and you will flourish in the DC area, then by all means, go to Georgetown (The difference in prestige is pretty much negligible). Also, the fact that you have friends there is helpful... transfers are already behind when they enter a campus; if you have friends there, the transition may be easier.

Whichever school you choose, you cannot go wrong. Congratulations on the great acceptances, and good luck with your decision (I know how hard it can be...

thanks for the advice...from reading your posts i know you hit the jackpot with colleges. stanford is definitely the right choice, no doubt about it.

anyways, i think im going to go ahead with georgetown and pray that i get off some waitlists (Columbia!!!).

I think you made a good decision and I'd say it's always a mistake to lean on prestige over anything else. Prestige won't be dictating your life at school but academics/location/student body will.

After reading your post, I can tell you really want to go to Georgetown over Cornell. I would think that DC is a much more exciting place to go to school than Ithaca (although I'm sure people at Cornell find many ways to have a great time there).

Like others said, the difference in prestige is not so great to choose Cornell over Georgetown. Go where you think you will get the most out of your education (you will definately get a great education at both Gtown and Cornell), and where you will enjoy yourself the most.
