Hi! Please help me evaluate my chances of admission.
I'm a transfer student from community college here in TX. I will be graduating this May and will get my Associate Degree. My only hope now is TCU
I applied 2 weeks ago and still have not receive acceptance letter (But I already got the Online ID whatever u call it). TCU is the only school that I wanted so bad to attend. My question is what are my chances of being admitted?

I have 3.64 GPA
Phi Tetta Kappa Member
A lot of community service hours!
2 Clubs 1 christian and 1 academic club.

Plan to transfer by Fall 2006
Major in Foreign Language (B.A)

I felt bad when I found out they determine their scholarship based on cumulative transferability of core classes that I took from community college.

Now, only approx. 27 credit hours out of 70 will transfer. (The reason is I did not do the Associate in General Studies instead I have like an Associate A.Science in Management if you know what I mean). My GPA went really low after I did a self computation of that 27 hours.

I don't know admission counselor told me don't worry about admissions and they will consider me for scholarship. Still it bugs me cuz I can't stop thinking about it also do you think TCU or private colleges focuses on family's financial income in deciding admission of applicants?

you will probably get into tcu. it isnt that hard. the tcu website even says that if you have a 2.5 you are more than likely going to get in. are you in the dfw area?

Yes I'am from DFW area. Its just that TCU is the only school where I applied. No luck at UTA or UNT (UNT is too far) their offering very little amount of scholarship.

Actually, I got a response in the email from the Admission they told me
I look good as a candidate. Still, I can't stop thinking what exactly is that suppose to mean you know what I'm saying? Not just that because I search collegeboard.com it says there out of 1,162 transfer students who applied, they only accepted 498 so I'm like will I be part of that 498 (hopefully) I'm just so anxious to receive a response from them they told me at the end of March (including the aid & scholarship). If no luck, then U. Dallas.

Have you considered SMU? The alumni association there is amazing. One of my cousin's friends was making 70k before going to SMU-Cox for her masters and as soon as she graduated she immediately landed a job making 140k. I would seriously consider SMU if I were you, especially if you are going to stay in the DFW area after you graduate. I am considering it as a safety.

You don't know how much I wanted to go to S.M.U. The fact is that I'm not even qualified for their scholarship. You need to have 3.7 to be eligible for their Community College Transfer. I only have 3.64 Not just that but you also need to have 50 transferable credits. I'm so confused with those terminology usage u know. I have like 70 but only 27 cc. are part of the core curriculum. If only I knew that in the first place I should have taken Associate General Studies instead of taking an Associate Applied Science.

It seems that TCU is the only choice for me right now. I just can't wait to receive a response from them.

Because I really have to transfer by Fall '06. If not then U.DALLAS whoever gives me the largest amount of scholarship. (Honestly, I have to rely on aid + scholarship).

BTW SMU Admission is very competitive right?

smu is kinda competitive, more than tcu. i hear smu is pretty good at scholarships but not as good as utd. a kid in my calc class got a full ride to utd but half tuition at smu. tcu is a good school and that area of fort worth is pretty sweet. i am not sure if you are a guy or not but the girls at smu are a bit more high maintenance while the girls at tcu are a bit more down to earth.

wow cool im a guy! yea wish i have the chance to apply @ SMU but I only have 3.64 (lacking .06). I don't know but I'm taking like a 4 credit Spanish class you think if I get an "A" this semester that will increase or add to my GPA? But semester ends by May and deadline is April something...

thanks for all the replies. Its just that I never had the chance to plan everything early u know. Would like to go to UT Austin but right now I only applied at TCU. Their requirement is like 2.6 but I felt really bad my GPA went really lowwwwwww because they did the GPA Computation based on the number of hours that will transfer. In my case its only 27 cc. out of my 70!

Hey does anyone in here knows how to read transcript correct me if I'm wrong but its written on my transcript GPA 1 & GPA 2.

GPA 1 includes everything and that includes non-transferable developmental classes. so its like 3.54

GPA 2 is college level hours only which is 3.64

Is it true Admission is uses GPA 2. As the basis for Admission rather than GPA 1?

They're only taking 27 of 70 credits? That's basically only a year of college. I would not advise you to go to TCU under those circumstances, unless you don't mind being in school for another three years or so...

What are developmental classes? I'd assume if they are seperate from college level courses, they will not count.

Developmental classes are things like Intermediate Algebra and certain English classes. You are placed in them if you do not score high enough on the placement tests.

yes tracy is right developmental classes are special classes for students who are not ready to take college level courses, which in my case im way too dumb for college algebra lol hehe i have take all these developmental math! luckily im done. btw i know 27 is too little! but its almost the same with UNT & UTA (they might only accept the same # of hours). I know it sucks but see I plan to "switch" and change my major. I have a Management Associate Degree and I plan to get B.A in Foreign Language which is totally and completely different curriculum. Should have known it early but yea have no choice but to continue for another 3 years or so.

yea it sux i hate math ive never like it im in intermediate algebra right now the last one! im just learning and tryin' to like it although it sux all my grades are ok except "MATH" its always C or B(rarely). I'm suppose to go to TCC @ Grand Prairie which is closer but I ended up attending DCCCD. Did u take Dev.Math?

yea last semester. it was horrible. after about two weeks i was just like, "this is too easy," and i did all the homework on the syllabus for the entire semester in one day, ordered the precal book on amazon, studied, took the accuplacer a month later and got a 70 (i originally got a 43), took it again a month later and got a 91, took it the day before the spring semester started and got a 105. i needed a 103 to get into calculus.

well ur lucky at least ur already in calculus. but yea somethin' weird is goin' on
this semester like my first algebra test i got 97 im like that is truly not believable but im the highest in class and almost everyone barely pass that test i was like whats goin' on with me ... and its weird 2 of my classmates keep askin' me all these crazy algebra questions after each lesson which before i seriously have NO clue what that x & y and all that equations. lol
