please help me find a college!!!

okay, so i'm an ex pratt student, looking for a new school to attend.
i live in ct, and am kind of looking to get out of the northeast. though i love it here, and it's seasons, i'm just thinking that i want to live in a warmer climate.
i'd like to find a few good candidates around here but kind of want a new scene. i like the laid back character i find in a lot of people here so i'd like to keep that in mind for my move. basically i just need help picking state/ city that fits my needs and has a school with what i have in mind.
here are my guidelines:
*nice weather; not too long/harsh winter, not humid, not rainy all the time, pretty mild
*medium sized city; perhaps a bigger city like san fran, but maybe not too big, artsy, eco-friendly, things to do (music/coffee house/bars), young people
*possibly some public transportation
*college not too far, or at least easy transportation to

states in consideration: CA,OR,NC,MD,AZ,WA,MA,NY (safety),RI,

school guidelines:
*looking to major in some kind of art field, photography, film, design, (i want to be a set designer or production designer)
*possibly apply to some art schools, but not necessarily looking to be in a exclusively art school (pretentious competitive art students can really get to me)
*nothing extremely hard or requiring a lot of specific courses (no math or language requirement would be nice)
* anywhere between 2,000-20,000 students
*not extremely strict or religious
*wanting like minded students, who are free spirited

i had about a 3.0 in high school, 1650 on sats, some honors courses, decent amount of extracurriculars, overall okay student

thinking about applying for spring 2009, though finding some dont have spring admission so maybe applying to the ones that dont for fall
HELP ME SOON PLEASE!!!!!! DESPERATE.

Take a look at Flagler College in St Augustine, FL. Beautiful college in lovely beach-side historic town.

not really a fan of florida, and that school doesnt look so great. thanks though!

Hey... I'd be happy to help you come up with ideas. Some of these schools might not have everything you wanted; however, they should fit with a lot of what you'd prefer....

Pepperdine University (CA), George Washington University (DC), Northeastern University (MA), Elon University (NC), Fordham University (NY), Emerson College (MA), University of San Diego (CA), Syracuse University (NY), Loyola Marymount College (CA), American University (DC), Savannah College of Art & Design (GA), University of California - Santa Barbara (CA), University of Georgia (GA), Furman University (SC), George Mason University (VA), University of California - Irvine (CA), University of Delaware (DE), Boston University (MA), University of California - Davis (CA), University of South Carolina (SC), University of the Pacific (CA), Towson University (MD), College of Charleston (SC), Seattle University (WA), University of Washington (WA), University of San Francisco (CA).

thanks so much for the list!! a lot of them i have considered, i just keep finding something wrong. pretty typical for me.

Stay away from Seattle University at all costs! I can not stress this enought! Its a HORRIBLE school! The academics are not at all challanging, sports are a joke, the administration has no idea what they are doing and is VERY corrupt, arts and theater productions are awful (!!!), it's not in a very good part of town and gang activity is going up A LOT, the campus is the size of a high school and its just all around gross.

On the other hand, University of Washington is beautiful and basically has everything SU doesn't. I love the city of Seattle and the rain isn't nearly as bad as rumored-it doesn't really rain, it mists. The city offers a lot of art and is VERY eco friendly, also it is the perfect size for someone who doesn't want to be overwhelmed by their surroundings.

I'm from California and I can't see how anyone could not love it here. The UC system is very strong and with a 3.0 you qualify (3.0 is the minimum for application). You probably have a good chance at UC Santa Cruz, which is a beautiful school right outside San Francisco with a pretty good reputation. University of San Francisco is a pretty good school, though since it is a jesuit school (like SU) it probably has a lot of the same problems as Seattle University.

You should also look at Loyola Marymount University and Pepperdine. Both are good schools and your application should be competitive at both.

Also, I did a search for you with the follow criteria:

4 year
Coed
States: MA, RI, MD, NY, NC, AZ, CA, OR, WA
Enrollment: 2-5k, 5-10k, 10-15k, 15-20k
Campus Surroundings: Large City, Small City
50% to 75% accepted
Special Programs: Environmental
Majors: Design and Applied Arts, Other, Film/Cinema Studies, Photography

and these schools came up:

Clark Univ Worcester, MA
Hofstra Univ Hempstead, NY
Point Loma Nazarene Univ San Diego, CA
Providence Coll Providence, RI
Rochester Inst of Tech Rochester, NY
U of San Francisco San Francisco, CA
St. John's Univ - Queens Queens, NY
Syracuse Univ Syracuse, NY
SUNY Buffalo Buffalo, NY

I hope that helps! Good luck with your applications!

I found a really awesome way to weed out schools it to look at their newspaper or some other student publication. It gives really good insight to the students and what is happening on campus.
