PSAT: M-77 CR-70 WR-77 (National Merit)
All IB courses, Diploma Candidate
4.28 GPA(5 people outside of top 10!!!, only because of 2 soccer classes a year bringing my GPA down)
Varsity Soccer
Good essays
ECs- Boy Scouts, Soccer, building guitars and amplifiers, Computer Science Club (will compete in Code Wars this year)
1/2 Iranian(although it counts as white, so I don't think it matters)

Already applying to: UT Austin, A&M (In state safeties), Stanford(probably not with that GPA), Univ. Chicago, Rice(double legacy), Pomona, Cal-Tech, Tulane(applying for free with no essay)

Any suggestions for a school or two that I would be a match for, maybe a little easier to get in than Chicago? I really need to think of some more schools.

PS: I would like to major in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering(Mech. or Chem.)

Thanks so much, will chance!!!

How about Johns Hopkins or Carneige Melon? What about Harvery Mudd too? Your scores are great for those.

How about MIT or Duke? If you ask me, you’re aiming a bit too low. Good Luck!

I’d agree with evracer. You could do much better than your list. I’d try for some lower ivies such as Cornell or Upenn. Possible a shot at Brown too. You could always try Emory, Duke, UNC: Chapel Hill, BC, Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown…just to name a few.

Good luck!

So, you guys think I have a good shot at those schools, even not being top 10% in my class? I think this may have been misinterpreted as top 10 people :)…

Yes you do! But if you’re looking for safties, CMU and JHU are great!

Could i ask where you are located in texas? [off topic]

I am in Houston, TX. Bellaire area, if you’re from here.

ahh no pretty far away haha good try though eh?

Any other suggestions?

Anyone else? Cost is sort of an issue, so schools with good financial aid would be nice. Sorry, I do not know my UW GPA, my school doesn’t give it on the transcript . I would love some more suggestions, though!

Look into colleges that promise to meet full need:

smokin’ SAT score! i agree, can you tell us what your UW GPA is out of 4.0? I’m guessing its around 3.7ish…but I definitely think you have a shot at the schools you mentioned. Everything except Stanford/UChicago/Caltech you’re probably in at
Stanford high reach, I do think your GPA diminishes your chances a LOT. UChicago, with a quirky essay you could probably get in, your test score is well within their range. Caltech…also probably slim chance bc they’re a heavy math/science school and it doesnt look like you have huge math/science awards or anything

Other schools you could look at- Georgetown, NYU, Duke, maybe Cornell even as a safety, Columbia as a high match…etc etc The Ivies all give pretty great financial aid, so you should look into some of those lower ones and see if you like any of them

chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/789037-chance-me-scea-yale-other-top-schools-pretty-ish-formatting.html

If it helps (shows well-roundedness, I guess), I worked one full summer in a nuclear valve warehouse, and another full summer at a CPA Firm (not just a copy-boy). Although I, personally, don’t consider it an excuse, I also had a pretty traumatic childhood event that went in to high school that could be a reason for my average-ish grades.
