Schools that I'm Looking Into: Wharton (ED), NYU-Stern, maybe Sloan I need more matches, reaches, and safeties any help
I am looking for advice on whether i should apply to Stern ED if i dont have a chance at Wharton. Please Any Advice is Appreciated

I say apply to wharton ED...if that's where you truly want to go give it a shot. I got in with very very similar stats, ecs, etc. (our stuff is so similar it's scary)...

as for school recommendations, look at these schools:
-Boston University (safety)
-U Michigan (safety)
-Boston College (safety/match)
-UVA (match)
-USC (match)
-Emory (match)
-Georgetown (Reach)
-Cornell (Reach)

Univ. Illinois
Berkelery
UM - Twin Cities
WashU

apply to Red Mccombs at UT Austin.

im trying mostly to stay in the north east area ( there are expections but the schools would hafta be very good ie: u of chicago)

thanks for the responses, keep them coming

bern and anyone else: what do u think my chance is at wharton ed and rd
and stern ed and rd

Anyones guess, when your dealing with Ivy's its a gamble. I say you have a pretty good chance. Whats their average SAT score nowadays since they changed them? Make sure your right in there.

id say mines prolly 50 points lower than their ' 50 percent range' thats why i hope applyin ED ( this is wharton im referring to ) would help me along with all of my other interests

I say you have a great shot at Stern if you apply ED. Even if you do not, I still say your chances are >50% if you present yourself well.

Bern, Michigan is not a safety. A 3.9 student with a 1390 on the SAT is a match with Michigan. And if he decides to Apply to Ross directly (as it will be permitted in a limited capacity this fall), I would say Michigan is a reach.

Witzness, Bern's list is excellent. Wharton is a great first choice as it mixes great Business education with excellent overall university academics and solid campus life. I would make Michigan your second choice. NYU would be a good second choice too. NYU is not quite as collegiate and fun as Penn and Michigan, but it is amazing and if you prefer to skip the college experience and go for a trendy NYC lifestyle, you cannot beat it.

oh sorry alexandre i actually didn't know that you could apply to ross directly...overall though I'd say that mich is easy to get into and someone with a 1390/3.9 shouldn't have a problem getting in...but you are the expert so I'd take your word. :)

well im actually a 4.2 or rather thats a 3.9 with 12 ap classes, just to clarify haha
plus i think i have a lot of extra things that would be make michigan a rather easy school for me to get into( i have a dozen of friends going there this year who you guys would think arent competitive at all)

anyway, yeah bern i appreciate your list because of the match and safety schools as well

are there any other b-schools other than wharton and stern that you would say are matches/reaches with reputations just slightly under them

MIT's Sloan (reach) has a great reputation however I personally would never want to go there...just the whole MIT atmosphere (no social life, the people - no offense to any MITer out there - are just really really nerdy, and the campus, imo, is not very pretty...

for me the only pluses about sloan are the reputation (although less than wharton's), the academics, and boston...

Cornell's new business program is really good. They were just accredited as an ug b-school this past year and in their first year were ranked 14th on usnews. The school has a lot of potential. The academics are great, imo, and cornell is a pretty chill school in general.

When I applied to schools I ended up having this list:

-Wharton ED (reach)
-Cornell (reach)
-Georgetown (match): normally a reach but my h.s. practically has guaranteed admission to gtown if you're in the top 5% (the school has never has a student in the top 5% not get in). Plus their b-school is much easier to get into than the rest of their programs.
- WUSTL (match): normally a reach but I was a recruited athlete and they were also offering a merit scholarship.
- Boston College (match/safety)
- U Michigan (safety)
- Boston University (safety)

that sounds pretty good man, i really appreciate all your input for me its gonna help me a lot with this whole process

although i think wharton is the exact atmosphere and teaching style i want, i think NYU Stern is still my second choice cuz of its reputation even if it doesnt lack the campus college experience since im a NY boy myself i can adjust

Witzness, do not let your regional experience fool you. Stern is not more reputable or respected than any other top 5 or 6 undergraduate Business program, and the opportunities that will be availlable to you at any of ther top B-Schools will be almost identical...with the exception of Wharton, which is truly in a league of its own. If you love the NYC lifestyle and do not care for a collegiate campus lifestyle, Stern is a great choice. But if you want the college experience, do not let your exposure to regional schools discourage you or influence you.

what are the other top 5 or 6 you are referring to

Obviously, Wharton, Ross, Sloan and Haas. McIntire (UVA) and Tepper (Carnegie Mellon) are also pretty good. Look at all the schools closely, and go for the one that fits your personality best. It may very well be Stern, but do not assume that until you look closely at all the other programs.

but i heard at many of those programs you hafta get into the schol first then re apply and hope to get in, which could be a sticky situation if u dont get into the b school. i think this applies to haas

Yes, it is the case with Michigan too (except this year, high school students will be allowed to apply directly to the Business school...but the demand will be so big, I would say the odds of getting in are pretty slim). That is the drawback of going to those schools.

yes this situation Alexandre has led me to also focus on picking some top schools with their quality economics programs

in addition to u of chicago and princeton ( reach) what other schools do you think i should look into on an economic focus
