Please Help Me! God Bless You!

I’m currently am a sophomore in a public highschool. My mom is a widow. I also have a sister who’s 9. We are low income and currently have housing help. My dad recently passed away last month from a sudden lung disease. We live in Cali. I was a very smart student. Perfect A’s in elementary school, and 4.0 is middle school. Highschool changed everything. My father was suddenly diagnosed with a very rare and dangerous lung disease. We found out when I started freshman year of highschool. First semester of freshman year I had a 3.3 GPA. I was struggling because of my father’s illness. I had to do most of the “manly” stuff of the house now. The second semester is just horrible. I got a 2.3 GPA. I got 3 D’s in Biology, Algebra 2, and English. For sophomore year, I’m currently trying to pull myself up. First semester of sophomore year, just about to finished and I’m heading towards a 2.83. A D in Trigonometry is all I have as of right now. Meanwhile for sophomore year, I’m also talking English 2 Honors and AP World History. I’m also President of Web Team and Media Tech. I’m in Basketball and Swim. The reason why my grades are going down is because everyday goes by my father get’s worse. And now he’s gone. This past whole year has been such a shock to me. I have to take care of my sister while my mom is at work. I have to take of the house also. If I were to get 4.0 + GPA from here on out, will I have a shot at college? Thank you very much.

Your still a sophomore, now’s not quite the time you should start to really stress college. There’s still plenty of time in your Junior year and Senior year to bring up your grades. There are plenty of good school’s that accept 2.8-3.2 GPAs and with a home situation like yours you can ball park the college essay no problem.
