Sat: 720m 660w 610cr
Rank: Top 12% (62/550)
GPA is 3.72 weighted
I've taken all AP/Pre-AP classes but no AP tests so far.
Taking 7 APs senior year
I don't want to brag but my essays are pretty creative and good
Got an 11 on SAT essay
I'm Hispanic from a poor area
Parents divorced, caused me a lot of distraction and took away from my academics
My Ecs are good, founded 4 clubs, president of 3, other leader in two other clubs, average community service, plenty of job experience. Took an internship. Good letters of rec, anything else just ask. Applying to engineering.
All state band 2x
WAYYYY more ECs than usual. Most ECs
Senior course load: AP English, AP Chemistry, AP govt, AP macroeco, AP calculus, AP Stat, AP engineering design and development.
By the end of the semester, I can probably be in top 10%

If I apply with good essays before the end of August, do you think I'll get in? Or CAP? Please be honest :)

I think you have a good chance. I have two at UT, and one did CAP. If you don’t make it, CAP’s not that bad. In fact, my youngest had a great year at UTSA. There are some advantages to starting out at a smaller, somewhat slower paced school.

You have a chance just like everyone. Since you are not an auto-admit you need some test scores to make up for it. The 1990 SAT may not be enough to overcome the 12%. The 1990 is just a little over the average for non-auto admits. Your ECs look good.

UT is tough if you are not an auto-admit. If you can get the SAT up to a 2100 or get a 32 ACT then you definitely increase your odds by being above average.

The average for engineering is an SAT of 2025 and an ACT of 31. You want to be above that.

This is just my opinion but I feel for students under holistic admission, their passion for something matters. I read your stats and I see “classic padded resume” and that does not mean you are falsely representing anything, it just means you did so much stuff to create a full and long resume. But what has not been created is a deep and passionate resume. You very well could have a passion for something, but your resume is a story teller to who you are, and I just see “typical college application.” So in closing, if you have a passion, show it.
