Please help me...I need all the help I can get.

I was wondering what you guys think:

I did ok in high school, ended up with a 3.1 GPA UW, got a 1980 on my SAT, and took maybe 5-6 core IB classes juinor/senior year. I had some issues with pot and video games during junior/senior year which definitely brought my motivation down to nothing. I really didn't deserve it, but GW University accepted me ED round 1 to my surprise. After getting in, I realized I had gotten pretty lucky and started to realize the importance of performing well in high school/college, and the long-term benefits. I can be very driven to do something positive if I know it's importance. Therefore, I wanted to know what CC'ers thought about studying for the SAT I (May 09 Test), for say a little less then a year or so, and hopefully bring it up at least 300 points. (Which I know I can do), as well as work hard for a 3.6-4.0 GPA freshman year of college. I really wanna know if I am wasting my time with the SAT if I transfer sophmore year to these colleges, as well as my chances given these circumstances. Thanks.

I will be majoring in business management btw.

Cornell
Stanford
Georgetown
Wellesley
Amherst
Colgate
UCLA/UC Berkley
Possibly Upenn

I don’t think Stanford, UCLA, and the other LACs provide business management major for undergraduate students.

Your son was extremely lucky to have gotten into George Washington with his high school gpa. When transferring, colleges will look more closely at the academic achievement of his freshman year and the professor recommendations. If he decides to transfer after his sophomore year, usually colleges will not even require the SAT scores to be sent. In other words, he needs to maintain a high GPA during his freshman year and develop a good relationship with at least two of his college professors to even consider transferring to any of the colleges that you’ve listed. There are too many high reaches on his list.
