For example, The Ohio State University Application for International Students will tell you the requirements for admission. (Other schools will have different requirements).

1) Four-year american high school diploma or equivalent
2) Official ACT or SAT scores with writing
3) Official academic transcripts/documents
4) Proof of English language proficiency
5) Student visa eligibility
6) Financial requirements
7) Ohio State health insurance

So, for OSU if you have less than 45 quarter hours or 30 semester hours your high school transcript is necessary. You should get a transcript from your (last year of) middle school because you only have 3 years of the equivalent of American high school. Before college you must have taken 4 years of English, 2 units of a foreign language (or your native language), 3 years of Math, 2 years of Natural Sciences, 2 Units of Social studies, 1 year of visual and performing arts, and another year of any subject above. According to here:[The Ohio State University](http://undergrad.osu.edu/countryCredit.html), you need to submit your Senior Middle School Diploma and a copy of the national College Entrance Examination. You need to submit ACT/SAT scores if you’ve graduated within the past 2 years. Even if you don’t need to submit ACT/SAT scores you need to have greater than a certain score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Michigan English Language Assessment Battery, or International English Language Testing System to show English language proficiency. I think TOEFL is the most common test to take to show English proficiency.

If you are not comfortable with your English language ability it will show up in your transcripts and your standardized test scores. Your grades in your major are the most important grades, but colleges want to admit strong writers too.

I am not an international transfer student, just a transfer student so I don’t know how to get a diploma translated. You can ask on the international student forum on college confidential how to get your transcript, diploma, and national College Entrance Examination translated. I did have to submit transcripts as a transfer. To submit my high school transcript, I emailed my high school college counselor and asked her to send my transcript to colleges and gave her the mailing addresses for each college. To submit my college transcript I filled out a form at the registrar at my university.

Good luck!
