Hi I was wondering if I could get some opinions on if I have good enough credentials for admission into UT Austin. I'm getting very nervous about this because this is my first choice school.

I live in Texas
I'm not in top 8% but my school doesn't rank after top 10% so I cannot tell you my rank.
My starting senior year GPA was 92.067;After 1st semester GPA is a 93.654(How much will this GPA increase help me?)
I will have taken 9 AP classes by the end of my senior year
Very good essays
Been part of band/marching for 4 years; Was a section leader my senior year
Will graduate distinguished achievement/success scholar
I have 100 community service hours
Part of Invisible Children club for 2 years, both of which I was an officer in the club
Part of Red cross club for 2 years
Was elected member of Math Honor Society and have been in the club for 2 years
ACT: 30; Superscored: 31; I also got a 36 on the science section on the ACT (I want to major in a science (Biology, Biochemistry, etc.) so I'm hoping this will help me a lot)
SAT: 1850 (I know this isn't that great but I'm hoping that my ACT score will make up for it)
There has been a definite upward trend in my GPA

I primarily want to go to UT so I'm really hoping I can get in there. Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

Your stats appear to be in the range for students they have accepted before, http://www.utexas.edu/academic/ima/sites/default/files/CDS_UT_Austin2011-12_Prelim.pdf
but your SAT results seem to be less exciting than your ACT.

Good luck! I hope the admissions people review your application in your favor.

It looks like you should get in but be prepared for rejection. I’ve heard that students from TAMS (Texas Academy for Math and Science) aren’t getting in but are being accepted at Rice. I know it’s not comforting but better to be prepared.

SnowflakeVT, do you think my low sat score will effect their decision even though I did well on the ACT?

The science section is generally considered the least important.

I’m guessing that at this point, you’ve already sent your SAT. I wouldn’t have sent it if it was lower than the ACT on the SAT-ACT concordance tables, which isn’t possible to tell without your writing score. However, colleges generally consider your best scores and thus will make their decisions based on whatever they think your best scores are.

The upward trend in GPA will help you.

I think you’re in good shape, but as always, it’s impossible to tell.

Good luck!

I am taking 6 AP classes my senior year and at the semester I had an “A” average in all of them, do you think this will also help me out a lot?
