Please help me i'm so stressed out

HI!
Okay, so I'm a senior in HS and I have a 3.47 (weighted gpa) not exactly sure what the unweighted one is but, it can't be too far off. I have literally taken the act 5 times, and I'm freaking out. My highest composite is a 23--- and super score of 24. I know I honestly feel so stupid. I'm stressing out because I want to go into business at UW madison/University of Illinois at urbana.

My extra curricular activites;

Local Church- Sunday School, Teacher's Assistant, 11th and 12th grade, 4 Hours every Sunday;

Key Club, 9th-12th grade;

Student Council, 9th grade representative, 10th grade representative, 11th grade

Secretary, 12th grade executive board;

GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) Club, 10th-12th grade;

National Honors Society, 12th grade (possibly, not yet confirmed)

Theater/Musicals, makeup artist, 10th-12th grade;

Tennis, Junior Varsity, 12th grade;

Model UN, 11th-12th grade;

Florida campaign volunteer, 12 grade

I want to go into Finance and economics for Investment banking or a major of finance + marketing and advertising, with a minor in econ. Honestly whatever would work.

I'm stressing out hardcore, and my anxiety level will not come down. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me what big colleges could accept me for their college of business?!!? Match me please!

I think you have spread yourself thin and it shows in your ACT. Try taking the SAT and see if you’re an SAT type of student. The schools look at your grades and tests first and then if something stands out in your EC’s they look at that.

I didn’t think seniors were allowed to be on a JV tennis team? The CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) doesn’t allow that since some schools’s players are physically stronger by the time they are seniors and often overpower the freshman players. If you just took up the sport to “pad” your ec’s, they see right through that, and they know you won’t get much play time as a senior (1st year) tennis player. All 3 of my kids are tennis players.

Is there another in-state school available to you? The top schools are out, as are mid level schools. You may want to do a CC and then transfer. Your score of 23 is just not high enough.

I knew top schools were out, but even mid level? I have family who went to UW if that helps? It’s my first year playing tennis, and it’s mandatory to play on JV your first year. I love tennis, I just didn’t have time for it for my other years because I was so busy with academics.
I come from a family where CC is just not an option. I know you’re being honest, but my anxiety levels just shot up some more.

i suggest you find a school that fits your gpa, act, ec’s, etc. if you find a school that is more of a match, your anxiety will go down a lot. and then next month you can take the act or sat and not be freaking out. the key to doing well on standardized tests is not being stressed out. so yeah, start looking for some other schools. good luck

Your gpa could be okay at the state schools, but it’s that ACT score that just isn’t competitive enough and doesn’t seem to match your gpa. Is there a reason you’re not taking the SAT? You might do better than you think.

Did you take any AP coursework? That could help you.

I have to be honest: you’re competing against other kids from that state who are at 4.0 gpa’s and above. If you’re applying for Financial Aid, your gpa won’t give you merit aid.

But you’re a legacy, so you could give it a shot. UW is a smaller state so you might get in.

my family is also putting a lot of pressure on me. My sisters and brother in law graduated from UW madison so everyone is expecting me to go there or a competing school (u of I) haha so that’s why I need to go to a school like that.

I’m not taking the SAT because I’ve done the ACT so many times that I’m just not use to the SAT format. Plus basically no one in IL takes it so I probably wouldn’t be able to find a class to help me. Don’t they subtract points too? I’m honestly so broken by taking the ACT that taking another type of test isn’t even an option.

And yeah I understand that’s why I’m stressing! Haha I don’t really need financial aid but ill apply for other scholarships and such after getting into school! Haha but yes I’ve taken;

Ap euro hist.
Ap us hist.
Ap english 11
Ap bio
Ap gove
Ap econ
Ap english 12

Oh also my bro in law recruits at UW…idk if that might help my case?

Scores on AP’s? The SAT is not like the ACT. The point is that you need to take some kind of test that equalizes you with all other applicants. Taking the ACT won’t benefit you if you stress that much about it and your scores are low.

is you BIL on the adcom? He can recruit you until he’s blue in the nose, but if he’s not on the admissions committee, it won’t do you a lot of good.

BTW applying for scholarships AFTER being admitted is not a good plan because after freshman year, there aren’t any. You have to apply for them through senior year of hs AND you need to apply for FAFSA in January to make yourself eligible for any university scholarship. Your ALUMNI FAMILY should have told you that. Honestly, all of your family members have NOT done you any favors by not preparing you for the FAMILY tradition of UW.

You’re being very rude, I simply asked for someones help. To possibly direct me to another decent business school. I didn’t ask for your opinion on my ALUMNI FAMILY or whatever. Capitalizing makes you seem like you’re being a *****. I bet deep down you think you’re helping, but you really aren’t.

UW will be a stretch but good luck. Find a lesser known state school and you could go there for a year or 2 then transfer. I like that you’re ambitious and you know what you want and if you write a great essay and highlight that and make sure your recs highlight that, you’ll have a better shot anywhere. You could also try applying to smaller state schools in states outside of Wisconsin that lack many out of state students and you’ll have a better shot at getting in, do you get what I’m saying? Try not to stress, you’ll be alright. Take the ACT again and also try the SAT and if you get your score up to a 27/1750 you will be in a much better position. Believe it or not, my 25 went up to a 29 within 2 months and I didn’t have a tutor so there is hope for you. Good luck :)

chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1391988-pleeeaseee-chance-me-engineering-i-will-chance-back.html

Thank you, cchlloe! I’m hoping to get into the school first, and then apply to the programs later! But I will def. look for other state schools! My parents don’t want me to take the test again, but thank you for your help! :)

I’m skimming, so forgive me if I’ve missed something, but what is wrong with your ACT score? 21 is average for kids planning to go to college, so yours is ABOVE average, right in that group. Surely all those average folks aren’t “stupid”. I don’t have a reccomendation for you, but I bet you will find a good fit.

Business girl: I’m not trying to being rude, didn’t think I was when I wrote it, my apologies, and I get that you are stressed. In reality, you can’t put this kind of pressure on yourself. Not now, you’re just too busy. I was just wondering why your family is putting so much pressure on you; it doesn’t help you now with your schooling and your tests.

You will get in somewhere and it will work for you. Your personality has to feel right for the schools you apply to. Only you will know for sure, that’s why people can’t really recommend schools because it is a personal preference and response. My dd visited Yale and KNEW from the moment she stepped on the campus that she wouldn’t feel comfortable there. Younger daughter liked it. Go figure. So feel it out.

Think about the SAT-it’s a different format than the ACT. As I said before, you could do better than you think. I think you could, based on your AP schedule of classes.

Whatever you do, calm down.

These two schools are reaches in your current condition. However, I have no clue as to what schools would be more accesible to you, given your choice of major.

After taken ACT 5 times, I think you should stop the test and just apply to the schools. With your GPA and rigorous of your classes, you have shown that you’ll do well in any colleges.
