PLEASE HELP ME IMPROVE MY SCORE!!

Hey guys,

I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question. I am new to College Confidential.

Anyways, I am a sophomore and I am taking the PSAT and SAT next year. My scores currently range between 189-207 in PSAT and 1890-1970. My math scores are always 72-76, but my reading and writing scores are ALWAYS between 59-65. Not to say that sometimes I do get a higher score, but I am never consistent. I am never able to pick the right answers in reading and I screw up in writing.

The problem I have is that in reading is that I can never pinpoint the answer. I read above and over the line reference, but I can't pick the right choice. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to SEE the answer. In writing, I forget to see the vague mistakes, so how do I see that when I am taking the test.

Overall, I am planning to increase my reading score to 65-73 and my writing score to 71-74. Can someone please guide me. I am a studious person and I am willing to do anything to get HERE!!!!

Obviously math isn’t your problem.
For writing: get Erica Meltzers SAT grammar book and read it cover to cover.
For reading: 1)read Krieger’s SAT book for critical reading 2) get a good vocab app like Knowji (levels 9&10) = 800 words and go through them a few times until you know them
The only other thing is to practice out of the Blue Book - do a writing and critical reading section at least weekly, and do an actual SAT each week during summer.

Keep in mind the new PSAT is this fall and new SAT is spring 2016 so above plan won’t apply when new formats kick in.

Good luck!

Thank you for your recommendation. However, my vocabulary is really strong (I usually miss like 1 on the whole test) But what is your method for reading. I always understand the passage, but I can’t find the answer. Any recommendation?
