I have just logged into my aid account and received what I think is my estimate. Could anyone please help interpret it?

Current Status: All Requirements Completed
Current Cost of Attendance Estimate: $53,872.00
Aid Amount: $50,400.00
Amount Paid to Date: $0.00
Amount Scheduled for Payment: $48,384.00

Are we expected to pay $53,872.00 - $50,400.00 = $3472.00? What is the amount scheduled for payment?

Also, is it common for the actual amount to differ a lot from the estimate?

If you want correct answers to your question about what is on your aid account, you need to talk to a financial aid officer to go over those numbers. I would think that you as a family would owe $3472 for the year. The amount scheduled for payment, I would guess is what the school aid is going to be with the remainder being PELL or other government money. But that is only my guess.

Actual amounts do not usually differ a lot, but because they are determined solely by how close the estimate is, it can differ by a lot on individual cases. If you have not yet gotten final 2008 financial info for your family, there is going to be a revision based on how close you are to what you have provided the college. If you made a big mistake in reporting the figures, the number can differ by a lot.

Thank you cpt! I think I figured it out. That other is workstudy.
