So I need help coming up with a list of colleges to apply to. I want to major in Finance (not economics). I live in New Jersey, but the only New Jersey schools I plan on applying to are Rutgers-New Brunswick and Princeton. I do not really want to go to a school where almost everybody is from in-state or where lots of people already have friend groups from high school. Just to get a sense of my grades and things like that here is my information.
GPA- 3.871
PSAT-1370/1520 (I did not yet take the SAT. I am taking the new one)
AP classes and SUPA classes: AP Physics 1 (4), AP Calc AB (5), AP US Gov and Politics (5), SUPA Public Policy (had a 94 average in the class)
Taking this year and next year: Ap Lang, AP Calc BC, AP Stats, Multivariable Calc, SUPA Forensics, AP Lit or SUPA English, and potentially AP Mandarin
Extra Curriculars: so far 2 years of soccer, 1 year of cross country, 3 years of spring track , 3 years of varsity swimming, 3 years of ski club, 1 year of interact (the teacher could not do it the next year),started a club this year where we donate and read books to children from inner city schools, specifically Jersey City, (connects to my study of a societal problem in Public Policy class “the graduation rates in Jersey City are too low”), tutoring of a 4th and 2nd grader
First Aid Certified and plan to become a certified life guard
next year I will have an internship because I have to have one my senior year at my school
What is your financial situation?
@intparent my parents are paying and there is no issue. it does not matter how much it is.
Lucky you! A lot depends on your test scores. Michigan (apply as a pre-admit to Ross, my advice is don’t attend if you don’t get into Ross). NYU Stern, Kelley at Indiana, Wharton at Penn.
-Geographic preferences?
-Large university, small LAC, mid-sized school?
You can’t really study finance at a LAC. I can’t think of any that offer the major, although maybe someone else can.
Here’s some good ones:
Bryant
Drexel
Hofstra
Quinnipiac
Pace
There are some LACs that offer a finance major. Trinity University is one: https://new.trinity.edu/academics/departments/school-business/majors-minors
I don’t know whether you’d consider a school like Babson an LAC, but they also have a finance major.
