Hi there, I'm almost certain that I want to major in computer science; I will say that my stats make me a competitive applicant at every school and that cost is not an issue (parents said that I should go wherever I can get the best education/opportunities).

Here are some of my preferences: small-medium school, in suburb or in or near city, acclaimed comp sci program, preferably smaller class size

I live in NY and I'd prefer going out of state, but I will still consider some in-state schools (preferably in the city)

I am more interested in finding safeties and matches right now. Obviously the top comp sci schools happen to be reaches for the vast majority of applicants.

I will most likely be doing EA to Harvard, but I'm expecting to get deferred and then rejected. I will also be applying to UC Berkeley and probably MIT RD.

Thank you very much :)

University of Maryland-College Park. great compsci, great STEM, interesting work in qc that is well-funded. good place for geniuses to interact with the future, what with NIST across town and JHU upstream. if not u/g, then grad.

Harvey Mudd? It’s not a safety though.

If you are competitive at all schools then you probably don’t have too many matches - maybe UMich or other top public Us which will be looking for full pay students. Due to low acceptance %ages you will be a reach at top private CS schools like CMU.

Carnegie-Mellon University… end of discussion. Medium size school, in a great area of Pittsburgh, acclaimed program, and out-of-state for you. Probably the top CS school in the country. VERY competitive. Good luck. (I know, I know, there ARE some other great schools, but I am prejudiced. I worked in the CS Dept at CMU back before there was an undergrad CS option).

Yeah, but the OP doesn’t want reaches, and the CS program at CMU is very, very competitive. Agree if he (?) is looking for more reaches that CMU and Mudd should go on the list, though. How about Case Western as a safety? Good merit aid, too.

You’d have to be careful and show interest at Case Western because they have suffered “tufts syndrome” lately- waitlisted a ton of high stat kids that they thought would not matriculate.
