Please help me pick!

Hello this is my first post! Well I am a Senior from Southern California, I want to major in English Literature and probably minor in German. I want to be a literary critic, work in publishing, and eventually teach English. I was accepted to the following places:

1) Swarthmore College
2) Georgetown University
4) Colby College
5) University of Chicago
6) Vassar College
7) Pomona College
8) Claremont Mckenna College
9) Scripps College
10) UC Davis
11) UC Santa Barbara
12) UC San Diego

Any input you have would be greatly appreciated! :)

You’ll get better responses if you say a bit about what you’re looking for in a school. How do you feel about small vs. large? West coast vs. east coast? What do you look for in peers? What type of classroom experience do you enjoy? What kind of weight, if any, do you put on sports, dorms, food, weather, or name recognition? Is money a factor (and if so, how is that influencing your list)? Have you visited all of the campuses? Any specific likes/dislikes about the schools you’ve been accepted to? Concerns?

No one can make the decision for you, but you haven’t yet given enough info for people to give personalized advice. I also have to assume that by this date, you’ve whittled your list down from those 12, even if you were accepted at all of them. If not, why not?

Chicago would be my choice. Then Pomona or Swarthmore

[NRC Rankings in English](http://www.stat.tamu.edu/~jnewton/nrc_rankings/area4.html)

vociferous: I think that ranking is for graduate school, not undergraduate.

Student 615 you are right, let me narrow it down.

U Chicago
Swarthmore
Georgetown
Pomona
Vassar

I would like to go to a medium sized school, but small is good too. I would rather go away for school (east coast) than stay here. In peers, I look for people that are good at what they do who like to have fun, not too snotty, But I know I will find that everywhere. I enjoy classes that you can discuss a lot in, that are rigorous but not impossible to enjoy because the stress will get in the way. As with Professors, approachability is something that is important but not a deciding factor. I weigh dorms ( quality and all four years), and name recognition pretty heavily. I’m not in sports, but I would like to go to a school where we win. I was given about the same amount of money for all of the schools, except for Pomona is free, I have to pay about (3-6) for the rest of them, and also I am a finalist for the Bill Gates Scholarship so I don’t know how that will work out. I am big on studying abroad, I want to go to England (my brother lives there) and Germany. Also, the gym is really important to me, there has to be a good gym.

The dislikes and like I have come up with about the schools are: Chicago might be too competitive, Swarthmore too rigorous and stressful to actually enjoy learning, I’ve heard the dorms at Georgetown are not too nice and I’m nervous about D.C, I don’t really know how nice it is there, I’ve been to Pomona many times, I am there a lot for certain programs and I would feel that I wasn’t taking a risk if I went there, and Vassar might be too liberal for me. I’m excited for cold weather though (I am sick of the sun).

I would also like to know how serious you guys regard ranking, is that even something I should worry about?

I am going to all of these places as well. I suppose the school would be how I feel when i get there.
