Please help me to write a CCOT essay for World History!

I would really appreciate the help. You see, I’m self studying for this test, and I’m a little confused on how to approach these types of essays, as they have a little different format than the FRQs from AP Euro or APUSH. I’m using a Barron’s AP study book to help me out, and it provides some practice prompts for essays.

The Rubric:

  1. Has acceptable thesis- 1 pt.
  2. Addresses all parts of the question though not necessarily evenly or thoroughly- 2 pts
For two points adress both continuity and change within the time period
  3. Substantiates thesis with appropriate historical evidence- 2 pts.
  4. Uses relevant world historical context effectively to explain change over time and/or continuity- 1 pt.
  5. Analyzes the process of change over time and/or continuity- 1 pt.
The essay analyzes (with accuracy and specificity) the causes of either change or continuity across the majority of the time period.

the prompt:
Analyze changes and continuities in state-building ONE of the following regions before 600 BCE.
China
Mesopotamia

My thesis statement: Although different political groups came into power as time passed, the ideas of the Sumerians continued to serve as an influence on Mesopotamia before 600 BCE.

I’m having trouble with how to organize the body paragraphs

Also, any additional tips on how to self-study for this test would be super helpful

Kudos to you on self-studying for AP World, I took the class my sophomore year and it’s by far the most difficult AP class I’ve taken.

The FRQs are literally nothing like APUSH/AP Euro. Erase the “how to write ___” tips for those classes from your memory. The only similarity is the AP Euro DBQ, as it’s the “AP World DBQ on steroids.” If you can write an AP Euro DBQ and get full credit, you could write an AP World DBQ and get bonus points–literally, they have extra credit for the AP World DBQ.

In addition to using the Barron’s, I’d suggest watching John Green’s crashcourse videos in World History. They helped a bunch of students last year at my school. [CrashCourse - YouTube](CrashCourse - YouTube)

I don’t exactly remember how to format a CCOT, but I just thought I could recommend the above due to the last line in the OP’s question asking for tips.

(Btw, I got 5s on AP World/Euro/US.)
