Please help me understand major prerequistes a little better

Hello,

I've throughly searched this forum, but still am a little bit fuzzy on how major prerequisites factor into the application. I am planning on being an English major. I've been to assist.org, and am obviously planning on completing the prerequistes articulated and offered at my community college for my major. However, what about prerequisites not offered at my college? For example, there are two prerequisites that I can take at Glendale College that are articulated with Berkeley, but other prereqs for which there appears to be no compariable course at Glendale. Will it be held against me if I do not complete prereqs not offered by my community college? Although there are other community colleges nearby, it seems like such a waste of time and money to have to commute to different community colleges.

Also, I just want to clarify what time prereqs need to be completed by. I know this is addressed in the FAQ, which seems to indicate as long as prereqs are completed by spring, it will not affect your chances, but is there any advantage to completing them by fall? Will it hurt me if I still have some to complete in spring?

Also, does anyone know if private colleges on the east coast are as picky about major prereqs? I know this is a highly generalized question, but if anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for reading!

whats up. i can give you a little advice (just got accepted to ucb for the same major) by showing you what i did.

i had already completed two of the prereqs offered at my ccc (sjdc only offered those two for English anyways) by the time i applied. These classes were taken in the fall semester i applied (meaning before actually applying) so i was really close like by a nose close. But thats just me. Assuming you're planning to transfer in the fall in the next years i don't see anything wrong with taking some prereqs in the spring semester after you apply though. With all that being said I would still try to take as much prereqs as possible prior to applying as opposed to taking the semester right after you apply.

and looking at the non articulated courses not offered at my ccc, english 45b and 45c. I didn't take it at all and still got in. however if i was in admissions this commute to another cc just for a prereq makes the app sexier especially if you sparse it into your personal statement. still i didn't have to do it so i don't see why you should. just take everything your ccc has to offer get A's in them and you're good.

Thanks for your advice, and congrats on your acceptance to UCB!
