This summer, I have two great opportunities. I can either go to India to volunteer in a hospital, or I can do research at a highly regarded medical facility.
I am equally excited about both opportunities that I have, therefore I am going to have to decide by my often-used method of choosing what will look better on my college application.
I already have many medically geared ECs and will have accumulated several hundreds of hospital volunteer hours by the time I apply to colleges. This will be the summer after my junior year and I am applying to top schools; my dream school being Yale.
Which of these do you think would look better?
Thank you :)

I would think that doing whichever one you enjoy the most would be best - it looks like you have ample ECs as well as volunteer work. Both researching for a facility and volunteering in a foreign country would be hugely beneficial.

First and foremost, choose the one you think you’d enjoy more. With that said, it’s much more impressive to do research at a highly regarded medical facility than volunteering at a hospital in India (or any other country). The general notion is that anyone can volunteer, but not everyone can do meaningful research.

Thank you so much!
The problem is I would enjoy each the same :/

Hmm…I’d think that doing fancy research in an exclusive lab would be very distinguished. If I was applying to college (which I’m not, but rather to prep schools!) for something in the medical field (I stink at science…) that’s what I would do. Hope I helped:)
