I dunno what to do .. my other stats are quite good but i dunno what to do with .. with .. "THESE" ... please help me out .. .are they so bad ???

i mean are they gonna affect my application so hard if i get a good score in SAT I ?? ..

i still have 2 dates left for December and January .. !! Please help me out guyss !!!

First of all, you don’t get “2190 from SAT Subject Tests”. Don’t sum them up, it isn’t how it works. Every test is a test on its own.

You should be grateful, “THESE” scores are pretty good. Anything above 700 is generally considered good. When you go above 700, your essays and ECs start to matter much more, focus on them instead.

This is from the MIT Admissions site.
Left score is 25th percentile, right is 75th
SAT Subject Test - Math [750, 800]
SAT Subject Test - Science [720, 800]

heyy guys thanks a tonne … that was really helpful ( and damn that was fast man ) … but still will you suggest me to retake it … specially after what Doinks posted over here … i mean those stats are from MIT’s site right … acc. to them i am a straight kick out … do you think that too ??

cmmon guys please help me out !! … I dun have much time left … ( and this doesn’t mean that i m about to die or sumthin, just tryin to make myself clear ) …!!

No, you’re not a “straight kick out.” If you’re not satisfied with your scores you can of course retake. I might retake the math 2, but you probably don’t even need to do that. Your SAT scores don’t do much more than demonstrate your basic academic capabilities. Your extracurricular activities and personality are much more important to MIT than the difference between a 730 and an 800.

Lidusha … umm please dun yell at me if i get it wrong but basically u r tryin to say that i am standing out of the crowd by my low scores ?? i mean dey are gonna look at me sayin “Wow … he is not a 800er but a 730 , and still applyin to MIT ??” … i mean if my SATs show them my academic qualification and tells them them that if i m prepared or not , doesn’t these low scores leave kinda bad impression on them ??

P.S. Your location tell that u r a MIT '14 … and still u r takin SAT ?? … i mean was that a real statement or just an irony ??

No, I am not taking the SATs. I meant that I might retake Math 2 were I in your position. However, I am not in high school, so I am not taking the SATs.

I don’t think a 730 would make you “stand out” for having low scores. Not all MIT applicants get all 800s, or even any 800s. Furthermore, not all accepted MIT applicants have 800s. SAT scores are much less important than your personality, initiative, passion for math and science and making the world a better place, etc.

Please re-read what we have been saying. Your scores are good. What she meant was that if she were you, she might retake Math2.
After you get beyond the 700 mark, the importance of SAT scores start to diminish, and essays & personality start to matter most.
